Somewhat unrelated to flying the line but related to hats. Ask any state trooper about his hat and how important it is to the uniform. Those hats are iconic, known around the world as a respected symbol of law enforcement. When he exits his patrol vehicle and puts on the hat, you know he's about to conduct business.

Is that what you do here with your hat on? Conduct business?

When I step out of my unit, you'll know I'm about to conduct business and our department doesn't wear hats....the hat has nothing to do with whether we're serious or not....its the blue lights, badge, gun, taser, spray, cuffs and general lack of a smile our totally pissed off scowl (depending mostly on how stupid you were being when you catch my attention)....hats don't make cops or pilots good or serious...sorry.

And.....all the shots at you have begun.

I agree with you, the hat symbolizes something and it's a shame it's going the way of the horse and buggy. The only airline I have any respect for is Delta, as they still require it. EVERY other airline has caved to their pilot group and made it optional. (You know "optional," as in if you wear it you're considered a management kiss-up or worse.)
Thumbs up to the "men" who still wear it and look wonderful in it. :)

the only hat I bring on trips is the one that prevent me from getting any itchy or bad smelling diseases from the ladizz at the barzz or clubs on overnights...
