I'm pretty sure I can get some info about this here...

I understand some states, for example IL and IN, will pay for "additional training to help their unemployed become more marketable." This can include paying for a 737 type rating for furloughed pilots, if gone about correctly.

Can someone who has been through this process point me (us) in the right direction?

Thanks for any help or info.

edit: PS. Im in Illinois.

Thank you very much for the links. The 1st link doesnt seem to work for me. I just end up back at the homepage, http://iwds.cmcf.state.il.us/.

Without navigating this entire web page, is there something specific in there relating to unemployed pilots? I imagine with United in town, the Illinois Unemployment Office has heard this request before.

Just curious, did you go through the process?

Thanks again.

I am not a pilot. I am married to a pilot. I am the HR Diva and answer pilot's HR questions!

It's just the link to the state Workforce Development System on which you can look up providers. But the unemployment office should have the information.

Each state has their own program and own regulations.

Prop,
I am sorry but you have to be unemployed, a low life drug abuser and have 8 children by the time you are 25 to get anything from the state of Illinois.

Sorry....I couldn't help myself

Call Higher Power 800-JET-CREW. They know the current contacts and program details for Illinois. I could pm the contact I used, but that was 2 years ago and that person may no longer work in that department. Two years ago Illinois provided $6,000 for retraining, if your airline was on the 'approved' list. WIA is a federally funded, state administered program. Each state distributes their funds as they choose. Illinois did have certain criteria to qualify. HPA can help determine your eligibility.
