[font=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica][font=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica]Does anyone have a phone number or link for helicopter pilot positions with the UN?

Thanks.

I think there is one or more UN helicopter pilot positions relative to Lat/Lon 44° N, 18° E.

As for all the positions of the UN helicopter pilots, I'll have to get back wit ya later hommie...all this intelligence is making my head hurt.

P.S. What color IS the boathouse at Hereford?

Every so often, FN FAL, I really love your posts.

The UN uses contractors and different divisions of the UN, UNHCR, Unicef, UNDP, etc, probably issue their own contracts.

In the US...

One is based in Oregon and flies ex-Russian equipment. Apologies but I forget the name. They supported relief efforts in Sierra Leone, etc.

Also try Petroleum Helicopters out of Louisiana. They do things such as supporting Raytheon in Antarctica and I think also bid on UN agency work.

Like amost UN work, there are probably subcontractors from a variety of member states.

LOL! That was good! (I wonder how many will get that reference)

I'd check with contracting with a PMC before I'd go to the UN. But maybe that's just me. :)

Good show there AcroChick!

Also, I did a search on www.un.org clicked on their employment page and found a whole slew of job postings...mostly administrative, security, logistical and support staff... Here is a direct link to the page...

https://jobs.un.org/Galaxy/Release3/vacancy/vacancy.aspx?lang=1200

I didn't see anything in the "transportation" section...so I would imagine that it's contractors like you said Acro and then of course they probably use "loaners" from foreign military sources.

Have their been any US forces wearing a "blue beret" lately? I don't recall seeing any, but the UN does use Legion Etrangere quite a bit in the Peace Keeping role...however, I do not know if the Legion Etrangere uses its own helicopters and pilots or not. Here is a link to the Legion Etrangere recruiting page... http://www.br-legion.com/

The Legion does NOT have its own air wing but rather uses support from French Air Force.

Ahhh...thanks! Yea, they just want to be able to sleep at night knowing they din't have to send their own boys and girls to get their boots dirty doing dirty deeds done dirt cheap.

I suppose if the orginal poster didn't mind just riding in helicopters, he could find some meaningful employment with Commando Hubert...

What the heck, three hots and a cot and all the red wine and Afghani girls a guy could want? I'd do it, but the thought of putting on a cold wet suit in the morning, makes my tallywacker shrivel up just thinking about it.

If I am not flying the bird, I get kinda' nervous riding in the back. And I am chasing some thin leads at Hurlburt.

Thanks for the info.

Such as Blackwater, who lost a Casa 212 along with crew and PAX in Afghanistan a few months ago.

Sarcasm? ;) I'm too dizzy from looking at your avatar!

Main Entry: 1mer·ce·nary
Pronunciation: 'm&r-s&n-"er-E
Function: noun
Inflected Form(s): plural -nar·ies
Etymology: Middle English, from Latin mercenarius, irregular from merced-, merces wages -- more at MERCY
: one that serves merely for wages; especially : a soldier hired into foreign service

From the definition, I think I have become, "one who serves merely for wages".
So I can't think of anything sarcastic to say right now...:)

Why? It's true...there are many "mercenaries" over there. We all know it. Hell, I've tried to get a job over there myself....but have not been able to. There are many applicants for the few jobs.

Uhm..., FracCapt, the boathouse at Hereford is blue.

I know it's very hard to discern inflection and intent in other people's posts on line. FN FAL got the joke based on the context.

You know you're a FLOPS pilot when you forget to wonder, "How does a 24 year old chick sittin' on her soft parts in New York City know about PMCs and the loss of a Blackwater CASA near Baghram?"

We live in complex times. Lighten up. We'll all feel better. :)

And try reading the Global Security page I suggested. It's really interesting (website strongly recommended for rational analysis of military and intelligence matters). Their "Picture Of The Week" is usually a classic.

Aerochik, If you are referring to Evergreen Helicopters, while they do a great deal of relief operations, they do not operate russian helicopters. The russian helicopters I have seen on UN missions are all contracted from Russian and eastern European companies with Russian or eastern European crews.

unless you've lived under a manhole cover in NYC for the last 10 years, the Blackwater affairs, as well as those of PMC have been widely covered by a variety of news outlets...

make sho' your soft parts dont get too soft, though, soggy ass is no good

I think you really have to work extra hard to have soggy ass at 24!

They actually have some pretty interesting looking courses. I'd like to do their advanced highway safety course....but it's $400!

But...you get to use THEIR cars! :D

I've been to a couple Blackwater courses. They are damm good at what they teach. I was quite impressed with their operation. I'd love to work for them, but they want some ridiculous flight times(I'm only interested in their helicopter division, not the CASA's). I could go work for them as "Security", but I don't care for the idea of being in Iraq or Afghanistan without an aircraft to run like hell when necessary. :D
