Hi Folks,

We're conducting a survey about headsets to determine which ones you use, which ones you like, and your opinion on how much control your air carrier, aircraft manufacturer, and/or the FAA should have in telling you what you should use.

Please take a few minutes to take the survey. We collect no personal information, the results are anonymous, and you can see the running results immediately after completing the survey.

Here's the link: http://uflymike.com/id16.html

If that doesn't work, go to our website:

www.uflymike.com and look for the "Survey" page.

We also have a banner ad to the left of this thread on FI.

Thanks!

Mike

Completed it. 2 issues I noticed are that if you accidentally select a rating for the wrong headset, there is no way to deselect it. Also, the survey refers to the uflymike as a headset, which it is not. As a result, I selected the Bose (i.e., QC2) and rated it in conjunction with the uflymike.

The Bose QC2 isn't an aviation headset either.

This isn't a stump your neighbor exam.

Bose has an aviation line of headsets for over 2wice the price of a QC2/UFLYMIKE setup. That is the bose.

The UFLYMIKE selection on the survey was likely made that way because Mike is trying to DECREASE exposure to Bose Corp by NOT mentioning their product, hence UFLYMIKE as the title for the QC2/UFLYMIKE selection.

My 2 pennies...

Thank you, Captain Obvious. I didn't say anything about "aviation headsets." I said "headset." I also realize Bose has "aviation" headsets. I just stated how I rated mine in the survey. The uflymike and Bose QC2 are 2 separate pieces of equipment from 2 separate companies, and have separate issues. I responded in the survey as such.

I didn't think I had to be but guys like you are the reason that coffee needs a warning on it that says, "CAUTION. HOT."

Just kidding.

Not really.

Maybe I am...

I don't have a Ufly set up but have flown with several crew members that have. They miss quite a few radio calls and their ICS Modulation is weak. I have grown quite irritated and am contemplating baning them from my aircraft.

That's the first negitive feedback I've heard about the Ufly / Q2C combo.

Why do they miss calls? You say the modulation is weak, can't you simply turn up the intercom volume or is it that bad?

Does anyone else have the same or different complaints? I've heard nothing but good things until now about Ufly.

May I ask what type of headset you use?

I flew with one guy who had a similar complaint about the intercom and am trying to determine whether it was my headset, his headset, our combination of headsets, or the intercom itself because I've only had one person even mention it.

As for missing radio calls... well, I sincerely doubt that has anything to do with the headset- perhaps it's a short between the ear pieces.

"...banning them from my aircraft." That right there is funny. Have fun with that.

Just ask them to turn their ipod down a little bit.

Uflymike is an awesome product and has made my quality of job much better. Highly recommended

Sorry you guys can't stand it when some one has a different opinion. I am just relating my experience with the Ufly. Two out of three crew members have had sound quality problems(static , low volume) and the other went NORDO when his battery died. My recommendation is Plantronics, Sennheiser or Lightspeed, all great products with great support and designed for aviation>

I don't use the UFlyMike setup, but I've flown with many people who do...they all seem to like it. However, I have noticed that very often it causes a lot of background hissing on my intercom using the company supplied headset. So, while they like the UFlyMike, I don't.

Perhaps I'll have to buy the UFlyMike as a defensive move!

The radio calls I miss are when my partner's yapping drowns out everything else. Perhaps this is your problem, and not the uflymike itself.

The uflymike and my Sennheiser kmac25 dont like each other, the uflymike is constantly opening the mike on the intercom ... but the other guy has to make a concerted effort to keep the mike away from any noise maker ( ie the airvent, or breathing on it, or chewing) mike will open the intercom up any tiny bit of noise near the ufly. The uflymike guys also complain that they cany hear me on the intercom... I can hear me so who cares I say! Now this really does only happen with the uflymike headsets, all other brands including guys with 200 year old rusted, cracked david clarks dont have any problems... my 2 cents worth.

I was going to buy a uflymike and the 'other' headset combo, but seeing these problems its off my wish list at the moment.

What aircraft are we talking about? You're using a voice activated intercom?

There's a fix for that, but we have to know it's happening in order to fix it. The UFM mike is much more sensitive than the others, but we can reduce that sensitivity.

the uflymike setup is great! greater comfort, less fatigue, wonderful sound quality. i dont seem to have any difficulty missing radio calls. the most irritating radio issue for me, is when the guy in the other seat, with 33+ experience, interrupts my qc2 experience by missing calls due to hearing problems!

Never had any of the problems mentioned here with my U-fly Mike setup. Best headset I have ever had! I too would like to be there when they are banned from HIS aircraft, hope it is a single pilot operation!

i dont seem to have any difficulty missing radio calls.

Well, of course not. If you miss one and don't know it, why would it be difficult for you?

PS. I'm kidding and understood what you were saying, but I couldn't resist... :D

Oh calm down Captain God.
"My aircraft". You must be a joy to fly with.

Heh... I got chewed out by a captain at our former place of employment for touching "his master switch" while he was inside drinking coffee as I was trying to board the passengers in the dark. The nerve of me, wanting more than just the two 3-watt light bulbs to board up with.

(His nickname rhymed with "Terminator," to give you an idea who he is... :D )

Never had the pleasure of flying with him. Though talking to him in the crew room was enough.
I deal with these types much different now than I did back then.

Well I do have a QC2, and you can have it when you pry it from my cold, dead hands.

Sorry man, but that is a bad attitude.

There's a thread over on the Cargo side labeled "Who is the biggest loser you've ever flown with".

The thread has been alive since mid 2005 or so and has over 30 pages. Capt. "Banned Headsets" would have to make the list.

One of my favorites copied and pasted from the biggest loser thread:

Many years back I was a F/O on a BE-99. We were in line number 4 or 5 out of about 20 or so for take-off in MCO, when my Captain puts his hand on his chin and goes into a deep thought process. I asked him if everything was ok? He looks and me and say's "oh gezz, well you had best let the tower know that we are HEAVY" I said, What? He said, "yea, we are at max takeoff weight and that he did not want to upset the Delta 757 behind us". I said, yea that's funny. He looked right back at me and said "I am not kidding, Listen I want to get hired over there at Delta and I want to look good in front of their pilots". I said I tell you what, you tell the tower that, I don't want to sound stupid on the radio. Well this jerk -off gets on the radio and says, "Tower this #### 2546 HEAVY, we are ready for take off, just want to give you some notice, we are a HEAVY today so please let the Delta 757 behind us know, and that he will have to offset the runway after takeoff".

Dude we are in a BE-99 !!! It only weighs 11,500 pounds !!!

You should have heard all the comments on the tower freq. I laughed at this guy so hard, I actually pissed my pants.

After all the laughter was over and we took off, the tower says, ####2546 Heavy! Contact Departure !!!! You could hear the controller laughing his azz off.

And yes, you guessed it. We called departure control and even they had heard about our HEAVY BE-99 !!!OH MY I could not even talk on the radio I was crying laughing so hard.

We should have a new version out in the next couple of months that has an adjustable gain control for the microphone (for those that insist on flying in a noisy cockpit in hotmike).

Also, survey is going great, BUT WE NEED MORE FOLKS TO TAKE THE SURVEY. The link is in the first post in this threat.
