At USaviation.com one UAL poster stated his LEC said they went through 51 pilots to get the 40. I am one of those 40. Happy to be going back, but nervous about the situation of our industry. Nothing like returning to the bottom of the seniority list at a bankrupt company to make you feel all warm inside. All of us got the A320 and we all are SFO or LAX. As they get deeper into the recall list, there is no doubt they will have larger and larger numbers of pilots bypassing the recall. Those of us going back now have only been out 10 months so we didn't get another job, or didn't get too much higher on the ol' pay scale at our new jobs to justify permanantly leaving UAL. The difference in my pay at USA3000 compared to UAL at 6 year seniority is 5K per month. That is a lot of pay to pass up, especially when you include vacation and "B" Fund money among other things. I think when you get into the 2 and 3 year furloughees and beyond, I bet there will be one bypass for every recall. Most of those furloughees would have to take another paycut again if they leave their now current job to return to UAL again. A lot of this attrition rate will of course depend on the condition of UAL in the future. I sure hope I made the right choice.
