Wow, I'm shocked.

Not.

This isn't that unexpected. The IAM deal is what we really need to wait for. If nothing by 2:00 PM, then the judge can impose a deal and the IAM can walk off. Stay tuned...

I have little doubt, that the IAM will reach a deal with the company and if no deal is reached in time, da judge will extend the timeframe.

The company absolutely needs the concession ( or so they maintain) and will not back down, the IAM knows this and of the two options available, keeping the jobs is the only sensible way to go.

Of course they need it. They need the employees to finance a lack of a strategic exit plan and viable business model.

"The agreement still left the machinists' union, representing 20,000 ramp and public-contact workers, without a contract deal as a judge's afternoon deadline neared for ruling on whether to break their contract."

Hearing is at 1:30 PM Central time. I believe if the IAM walks UAL, will go chapter 7 in the very near future.

Whatever the reason, the outcome is the same. You agree?

I've heard this all before... UAL needs to save money so that Management can receive its retention bonuses... I knew the mechanics would cave - not a surprise...

The IAM will cave too. The precident's been set. Tilton now owns his unions. No more excuses. Of course, UALs judge will give management another free pass through the next bankruptsy, courtesy of the U.S. Air precident.

Absolutley. My response wasn't directed at you, just the absurdity of the situation. This was managements excuse the last time about "needing" concessions for a plan that has never materialized.

This concession cycle will repeat itself again and again. There is no incentive for management to come up with a viable plan if the court continues to allow UAL to hide in bankruptcy and the unions underwrite (albiet indirectly) the combination of inept management with massive losses.

IAM deal reached. Came across the wires at 3:08 EDT.

I think everyone should give the flight attendants, mechanics and ground workers alot of credit for staying on the job (all UA workers for that matter). Its such an unfortunate situation for all of you to have expectations that don't ever seem to materialize. I hope that your management realizes that all of you care about your jobs, your company, and your families and sees you as people, and not numbers in a computer. I hope United returns to profitability in the near future, puts some money in the bank, and within the next few years shows all of you (the workers) that you are what make the airline stay on its feet. I also hope the management works just as hard as you to see that this happens. Good Luck!!!
