Does anyone know how United happened to select the Gershwin tune (Rhapsody in Blue) to be the theme song? Who made this decision? What year did it happen?

Thanks.

I think this happened when Steven Wolfe took the helm about 15 years ago. Before that it was still, "Fly the Friendly Skies" I think??

Instead they have spent $millions on a new ad campaign featuring a cartoon series... It's pretty good, but I bet that cash could have been spent elsewhere - probably to pay down MASSIVE DEBT....

...ummm...instead of what? I think the question at hand was asking about something that happened back in the 80's and early 90's.
