United Airlines last week announced a new promotion for Colorado consumers. Buy two tickets by the end of October and get a free upgrade. Just dial a special 800 number to register and book.

And indeed it was special, because United's ad agency published the wrong number in the blitz of newspaper ads. To the delight of some, and the disgust of others, callers were greeted by a voice, described delicately by the Denver Post as "clearly not that of a United reservationist."

It was a phone-sex line, where some professional, likely named Bubbles or something similar, let callers know that while they couldn't get them to Omaha, they could certainly get them other places.

Without any need to leave town
