His numbers are that high BUT they are based on flying numbers projected in the distance. If you are within that number, plan on the furlough and if it doesn't happen you can tell us how lucky you were when we return in ten years or so. And btw, the beers will be on you.

Would anyone know the DOH of the last pilot standiing after these furloughs take place? I thought the furloughs at
US Airways went back to a '88 hire date. Ouch! Seems to me there is still an alignment of these to airlines route structures.

Today is, unfortunately, the furlough date for another 79 of our pilots. As you know, we’ll be furloughing 88 more pilots on July 31 (the start of the August pilot month), bringing the total number of furloughed pilots to 1,643.
Today also marks the closing of our HNL B767 domicile.
During our recent employee meetings, many questions were asked regarding additional pilot furloughs and the economic status of the company. I’m sure everyone realizes that pilot manpower is primarily driven by our marketing plan and the number of pilot hours. Based on the most recent information from Aircraft Scheduling, our total active line pilot requirement is going to be in the neighborhood of 6,200 active pilots. This is approximately 900 fewer pilots than our July 2003 active line pilot count. Normal age-60 retirements over the next 18 months will reduce this number by 200. Therefore, based on the projected number of block hours and utilization, we anticipate another 600-800 active line pilot furloughs, or an average of 60-80 per month. These numbers include the furloughs effective July 31. For those interested in seniority numbers, that would put the bottom seniority number between 7700 to 7500.

The most senior person in that range would have a hire date of somwhere in March of 1998.
