pay raises mean nothing with out SCOPE!!!!!! SOOPE SCOPE SCOPE SCOPE SCOPE! I have a big nut to crack since 1/2 of all UAL flying is done by the teenagers. Good job ALPA and some of you ultra senior grampas

Good Luck, I was riding in the hotel shuttle about a month ago w/ a UAL777 Captain. he knew nothing about CAL/UAL wanting scope and said he could care less about scope. TAKE IT FOR WHATS IT WORTH.

Thats why this industry and especially UAL are so screwed up, "ME MINE MENTALITY" he is probably the same capt that didn't know UAL had furloughed again. UAL is 2 different companies, wide-bodies(not talking about FA's) and everything else. Wide bodies didn't even know how crappy the lcc rules were, and therefore were wondering why the narrow body guys were complaining so much. Nothing will change until that mentality is changed!

As far as the transition agreement I hear its complicated at the agreement in principal has no language and they do not want to get burned in negotiating the language because that’s what happened in BK1 with no language and a vote on a term sheet and not a contract.

Language has been done since last Friday. The MECs are meeting about it this week.

YG, you obviously haven't lived through a scope that has been violated. Scope isn't worth the paper its written on when the company stands to profit from the lack of it. Unions do not have the resources or law on their side to protect it.

One filing and its gone. BANKRUPTCY..... Bye bye scope, go for the money and hopefully you have saved enough to be ok.

You can argue it all you want, but how long has Alpa has been writing scope? How many have been violated or are worth a crap??? Considering 50% of the US flying is done by RJ's I can't believe people are still yelling "scope".

What scope was violated? The 50% RJ figure you speak about came about by the willing negotiation of it to be outsourced in good times and in bad. Please list all the 1113c motions where scope vanished by a judge's decree. If you can come up with any, the list will be very, very, very short indeed. Then make a list of all the willing negotiations where pilot groups gave away scope in good times for a cookie and in bad times for a "bargaining credit".

Scope is without a doubt, THE strongest part of any union pilot contract. But you can't hold on to what you give away willingly. Some will use the gun to the head analogy in bad times. The problem with that excuse is it ignores the MASSIVE scope give aways in good times, as well as completely ignores the history of the incredibly rare (bordering on nonexistant) bankruptcy judges "giving" scope away against a pilot group's MEC and/or membership's directive.

If scope is so worthless, why are "mainlines" flying anything? Why aren't all planes at every airline simply up for bid to the cheapest pilot group? They very, very clearly are not. So why, if scope is so meaningless?

And I couldn't care less about his retirement. Or lack thereof.

Typical senior a-hole attitude. It's all about me and I don't care about anyone else. I've run into a few of em. It always baffles me how stupid and selfish some of them are.

Just tell a guy like that there is a grassroots movement with (insert impressive but plausible number of pilots here) pilots already on board to outsource widebody flying in exchange for insourcing narrowbody and RJ flying and watch him blow a gasket.

The key word there is SOME of them I fly with them on the widebodies and they are not all like that. Folks here like to put pilots in a group and assume thay are all the same.
