For the UAL and AA guys out there. I was wondering what your jumpseat policies were now days. I work for a 121 cargo carrier and I was wondering if I would be able to catch a ride with you guys out of MIA to ORD. If any of you could help, please respond or PM me, I would greatly appreciate it.

You need to be on our approved list. I saw the 747 on your profile, if you are with Atlas or Polar (still seperate companies?) you guys are on our list.

Remember the actual jumpseat is not open just yet, so you will be required to take a seat in the back, give yourself a few flights, MIA-ORD is hub to hub and a heavily traveled one at that.

I believe you need to go to the ticket counter first, may want to check with other guys and gals. Sounds funny but since I don't actually jumpseat like you do on my own airline I am not sure exactly were you get your ticket (1W). It seems to have changed a few times in the past year.

Good Luck:)

I learned that United's jumpseat policy only offers offline pilots a seat in the back if the jumpseat or seats in the front are empty. I tried to get to ORD from Narita and was told that since they have a 4 pilot crew for that flight with both 777 jumpseats occupied, I couldn't ride, but that the LAX and SFO flights from Narita would be able to offer one place in the back since they are shorter flights and only take 3 pilots. This is just stating the facts as I was told- not a complaint (I got a ride on NW to MSP) and made it home in time to get to work. Just adding to jumpseat info for anyone who didn't know.
