I can just see the union complaint-- ceo came down and threw bags taking the job of a solid union worker.

An admitted long time ago I was bringing back some customers from the Firecracker 400. They were drinking when we got on the Delta flight and the F/A asked me to manage them if they got loud. I asked her if I bought drinks for the aircraft would it help. So that is what we did and everyone had a great time.

Transferred to USAir, same situation. No you cannot buy drinks, keep them in their seats or you will be asked to leave.

That culture has lasted a long time and infested everyone they tried to buy like Piedmont.

The world would wake up tomorrow just as well without this airline.

P-MSMBC is now reporting that Airways WILL pay the volunteers for their time this weekend. I can hear it comming now, "yeah, we mailed the check last week, you mean you haven't gotten it yet?"

I've seen this kind of of frantic, confused behavior before from management at other companies (not necessarily airlines).

It usually means the end is near.

interesting note: only caller that said he/she would work for free was a caller who claimed to be mngt. with the largest transport. company. he was well..something to hear.

After being furloughed, I wouldn't wish it on anyone in this industry. However, this has gotten out of control. If I worked over there, I'd be tired of the crap. I think it's time for those guys to jump ship as well. Good luck to them all.

Thats great AIR BISCUIT & easier said if you don't work for the company. There are still some employees at USAir that are still relying on Airways to pay the bills.

... that they'll all be working "for free" after the 1st of January, since they'll fold shop on the 14th and no paychecks will be cut on the 15th.


Just a rumor . . . heard it from a friend, who heard it from our mutual friend who's a pilot at USAir.

I agree with you SRJ, but come on, at what point do you say enough is enough. Have you seen their pay rates? They are sickening and further pulling down the industry. I know the mentality over there though. All the pilots are about 50 to 55ish so what are their options. They've spent all their money over the years on planes, boats, divorces, etc. because they were banking on a pension. Do you honestly think working for free will save them now? It's over.

No, it wasn't. Read the article again. Here's a pull-quote: "In a message to its employees Tuesday, US Airways sought volunteers willing to give up their New Year's Eve plans and work as customer greeters, ramp agents or baggage sorters. The request seeks workers only at Philadelphia, a major hub for the Arlington, Va.-based airline."

And another:"Company executives and managers would be taking part in the volunteer program, he said."

It just said they would be taking part (right!!), but they are soliciting volunteers from all groups, by the sound of it.

I don't agree only because: A) This past weekend is not going to cause an immediate shutdown. It may have caused the death for future revenue B) The judge will make his BIG judgement next week that will determine the fate and C) If management knows the end is Saturday, why are they trying to get volunteers to work if they are going out anyway?


Just speculation....although I have been wrong before

USAIR is good to go. They aren't going to close up shop anytime soon.
