United Mechanics Opt for Teamsters

United Airlines' mechanics are switching their union representation to the Teamsters Union from the Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association.
The Teamsters announced how the mechanics voted on Monday, saying more than 60 percent of the more than 6,700 votes cast went to the Teamsters.
The National Mediation Board still must certify the vote for the switch to become official.
The Teamsters have been pushing for more than two years to represent the 9,300 active and furloughed mechanics at United.
Many mechanics are disgruntled by United's move to send maintenance work overseas. Teamsters General President Jim Hoffa says United has cut more maintenance positions than any other U.S. airline.
