I just started training in a 690 and what a plane! The thing feels like a rocket compared to the tired BE10 I'm flying now, but I have to say, that steering setup is the most messed up thing I have ever encountered. Seriously, I must have looked like a drunken student to anyone watching.
 
If its anything like the Twin (piston) Commander, try rolling your toes in your shoes (a la Bruce Willis in Die Hard). Anything more than that on either brake will make you seem less like a drunken student and more like a guy and his "O" face. (read - drunk pilots could probably taxi, but during the "O", taxiing is the last thing on your mind).
 
Pretend your ankles are welded together and all you can do is press with your toes. Its the most un-natural thing you can do, but just press the "brakes" to turn.

It'll come and then it will be natural.
 
Hey i have been flying the turbo commanders (690's) for a little over a year now! Whoever did the steering on this airplane should be shot! :-) The way i do it though is by setting my speed with one power lever, and then keeping directional control with the other in beta mode! Also the faster you go the easier it gets! Stick with it though and pretty soon you wont be able to taxi a cessna anymore!
 
I owned one of the recips for years. You get used to it.
 
Give it 5 or 10 hours and you'll be taxxing like a pro, I try not to use the rudder pedals/brakes when ever I can, one of the perks of flying a multi....
