I bet you a passenger would make it past security with this flashlight, though.

I think it's because the secondary function of the flashlight is a weapon.....look at the bezel on that thing...you can definitely cause some damage.....

now if the TSA were to tell me that I can't take my 4 D cell maglite, but a 3 D cell is ok, i'd tell them to shove it in da pooper.....
 
Surefire's were built for the special operations community... the bezel is DESIGNED to be a weapon. Even the TSA isn't stupid enough to intentionally allow a purpose-built weapon through security.

The plastic G2 version is a lot cheaper (same output and batteries) and is TSA-legal.
 
I just wish the TSA would change their focus from grandmas, babies and pilots with water bottles to terrorists.
 
didn't realize it was designed to be a weapon. the aforementioned insults to their intelligence and value as human beings still stands, however.
