TSA new rules for J/S

TSA has begun to enforce
a new security procedure that affects all crewmembers. The new
procedure, which went into effect July 10, requires crewmembers
to possess a boarding pass or gate authorization in order to
pass through the security checkpoint at airports that the crewmembers
airline does not serve. If a crewmember wants to jumpseat or
pass travel from an airport not served by the airline the crewmember
will need to proceed to the ticket counter of the airline he
or she will be traveling on to get a boarding pass or gate authorization.

That is the exact interpretation I had of the new directive...
You should be ok if your airline serves the AIRPORT.

I am just wondering how long it will take the local TSA gurus to reinterpret it to the specific checkpoint or terminal.

So your airline is in terminal 4... and you're trying to j/s out of terminal 1...
And they send you packing to the ticket counter where there are 300 people in line..

I just j/s out of Jax this morning and dealt with it. Just go to which ever airline has the smallest line and say you are j/s with them. Once through, go to where you need to go. It added about 20 min to the whole process today, which meant a little less sleep.

Or you can just go to the next security line or (and this is my personal favorite) carry a j/s form with you and show it to them....that seems to do the trick even if its BLANK.

I'm trying to figure out what "loophole" this new rule is supposed to be curing. TSA already "checks" (note the all-important quotation there) your ID when you clear security, so do they think the ticket counter is going to scrutinize you any better?

Hi!

Regardless of what National TSA says, it depends on the airport.

In GRB, and some other airports, you have had to have a gate pass for the last 3 years, while in others you don't.

I'm sure that this trend will continue, with each airport's TSA doing it's own thing.

One way to save time is to list, and if that airline has computer kiosks, you can print your own gate pass (if needed) and get right through security without waiting in the counter line.
