Regardless of what National TSA says, it depends on the airport.

In GRB, and some other airports, you have had to have a gate pass for the last 3 years, while in others you don't.

I'm sure that this trend will continue, with each airport's TSA doing it's own thing.

One way to save time is to list, and if that airline has computer kiosks, you can print your own gate pass (if needed) and get right through security without waiting in the counter line.

What about cargo airlines that "serve" the airport but that the TSA has no idea who they are?? "Yes, I fly here, over at the Dark Side...and I'm your faaaatther"
 
You also have the delight of being a "selectee" 9 outta 10 flights and have you're handluggage spread all over the area
