You don't see the airport workers (airliner employees, etc) going through usually, they have their own area, and I can guarantee you most of them already take their shoes off before they go through, and if they don't it's because the shoes have a sole that are like maybe 1cm or less.

I don't know what major airport you work in, but very few of the big airports have the airline employees go through a security checkpoint. Most airline workers don't get screened at all, and I promise you if they take their shoes off it's only to scratch their feet.

I know Phoenix Sky Harbor does. The pilots have to stand in line and go thru the same screening process as the passengers do. I thought that was standard throughout the whole US??

I dont know where you get your info...but ...you are wrong. That is unless you are referring to the ground workers. As a cockpit crewmember, I go through several major airports in a months time and I can guarntee you that I have to go though screening every time.
