The one who needs to go is the Secy of Transportation, Norm Mineta, a first rate politically correct hack if there ever was one( and a democrat). Most of TSA's problems can be traced to him.

They gave that (insert name here) San Jose Airport as a namesake.

I'm in the major airports just enough for them to pi$$ me the f##k off everytime I'm there...

And if I have to take my shoes off ONE MORE TIME to prove I don't have a stick of C4 stuck in the heels!!!!!

Everyone takes their shoes off before they go through. Do you feel special? Who do you think you are? You have a right to compromise everyone elses safety by going through with your shoes on and them not seeing something in them?

Nobody cares who you are dude, if they ask you to take your shoes off, do it.

You don't see the airport workers (airliner employees, etc) going through usually, they have their own area, and I can guarantee you most of them already take their shoes off before they go through, and if they don't it's because the shoes have a sole that are like maybe 1cm or less.

Why don't you tell those TSA guys how you feel, I'll guarantee you do it in Chicago and the CPD will come and take you away.

I never take my shoes off. The sign says "optional", does it not?

I don't believe so. They tell you take them off, you take them off, you don't, you go home peacefully, or someone comes down and bails you out of jail.

EDIT: I should have phrased in my previous post, ALMOST everyone does before they are told, if they are told.

The sign at DEN says optional. JFK has the fastest and most laid back security of the airports I've been to, and I have never seen anyone taking their shoes off there.

I think the thing that offends people is the inconsistency, and the fact that many if not most of the rules are totally nonsensical. I had to mail myself my mini keychain tool (screwdriver, scissors), yet my belt or pen are each far deadlier than that little tool. I have a friend who develops a limp before every flight and takes a cane with him, but they gave him a hard time about his little leatherman tool - the knife blade is about 1 inch long.

I have forgotten, twice, knives in my carryon that were missed by the TSA. The holes in the scurity are reasonably well documented, even if some are rumors, and tests routinely show that there's a pretty good chance of getting a gun on a plane if you want to.

THAT'S why people get pissed - because when they are standing in line, listening to rules about stuff that wouldn't make sense to a 3 year old, they know it's all BS.

Happily, most of the time when I fly I carry my Sig P229 and either a shotgun or my AR15. Gives me a warm fuzzy, and I can go shooting with my brothers at my destination without having to deal with checking/declaring them. Of course, I could hijack my own plane, but I choose not to......

To this day, I can't understand why ALPA never raised a stink from hell with the security BS that flight crews have had to deal with in the past 3 1/2 years. The fact that flight crews had to surrender things like nail clippers is so insulting and offensive to anyone's sense of logic that I would have voted to strike until that BS stopped had I been a pro-pilot.

As far as the REAL effectiveness of the TSA, I guess I will defer to anyone on here who works for them since I do not know all the procedures they have in place. As a consumer, however, I will tell you that they are the primary reason I avoid commercial flight unless it's absolutely necessary. When I briefly lost my medical a year and a half ago, I even drove a 1200 mile trip rather than fly.

Yeah, he is now employed as a mensroom attendant at a Laughlin NV casino.

A promotion, anyway you look at it. Now, at least he has some self respect.

Are you a TSA worker??

And you know what, that last paragraph is exactly what I'm talking about - and that's EXACTLY the problem! You can't even say anything negative or protest to TSA without getting hauled off like a common criminal. They're nothing more then federally paid, rent-a-cops that have big chips on their shoulders, and serious compensation issues. They want to take my nail files, and clippers, yet guys with handguns and knives get through on a regular basis. They aren't doing anything more then slowing stripping away our given rights in the name of terrorism.

And for the record, YES I AM special, because my mom tells me so! :D

Well, joke or not, they keep you a bit more safe than before.

You put down the TSA a bit to much. How often are you in "major" airports?

I've seen plenty of douchebags get caught and or turned away by the TSA.

Really? I know a guy who went through security with one of those auto-injector epinephrine shots that have a spring-loaded, 1" needle just waiting to pop out. Of course the needle showed on the xray, and the TSA guy even pulled out the ziploc bag holding the auto-injector and looked at it, but allowed the pax to go on his way.

I watched the whole thing, and was not impressed with the due diligence. Granted, that tiny needle ain't going to take over an airplane, but still...

Yep, it was a major airport.

Whats your point? Was it bad for him to go through with it? If it was why didn't you stop him?

No, I don't work for the TSA. Why do you you have a problem with people breaking the law being taken away? The law is there to protect you from pyschos and it does. Nothing is perfect in this life, and especially with our government but we all do the best we can. If you think you can do better, then get off your "arm chair" and go down to D.C. and tell them what you think, and stage a protest till they do it your way.

I bet you have problems with cops pulling you over for going 5+ over the speed limit, or rolling through a stop sign. The law is the law dude, you break it, you run the risk of being caught and violated.

------ Look Im not trying to pick any fights here on "flightinfo." I'm backing up my opinion with the same amount of stuff you two put my way.

Allright, before this gets too cranky - I'm not looking to pick a fight with anyone on here, including you Metro. All I'm offering up is a FRIENDLY discussion concerning your view point vs. mine. Is my viewpoint completely right? Probably not. Is your viewpoint completely right? Probably not. But the reality is probably somewhere in the middle. *stepping off soap box*

Now on with it... I have ZERO problem with people who break the law being taken away by the law. However, I do have a problem when someone gets hauled off or interrogated because they question a TSA guy or give him grief about something. For getting black-balled from flying and put under investigations from all these federal agencies if you dare stand up and question the things TSA do. I also have a problem with people saying how much safer we are now because of TSA, when guns, knives, are still getting by these guys. I'm also miffed about toe nail clippers, a cup of coffee, keychains being taken away, yet they let 1" auto-injectors and other far more potentially dangerous items pass. It's all just a smoke-screen to make all of us feel better and safer to fly.

And I don't know what world you think we live in now a days, but going to DC and protesting is about the most worthless thing you can do. Do you really think those politicians who have there own vested financial interests in legislation, and worrying about what will get them re-elected next term - really care about what Joe Blow is holding a sign up about on the front steps? Do you think if I walk around protesting TSA that they're going to give in and return it to its former self? The answer is no, no, no!

And am I one of these people that get mad when I get stopped by a cop for going 5+ mph over the speed limit? Absolutely not, and I've had plenty of experience in this arena! :D I figured if I get caught once, it's because I should've been caught 500 times before that but didn't! I choose to speed, I take the inherent risk that I will get pulled over. Did I make a rolling stop at that stop sign and get caught? Been there, done that, and frankly I deserved the ticket - I broke the law.

Man, I better go find Mormon Girl and see what she is up to tonite!

Smaller airport TSA $ucks donkey

Today, non-revving from GSO to ATL after a weekend getaway, I had the following exchange:

TSA chick: Are you "on duty" (had my leather jacket in my arms, and was wearing black pants and shoes).
ME: No, why?
TSA: Well, if you're off duty, you have to take your shoes off.
Me: And if I'm on duty?
TSA: You can leave them on
Me: Then I'm on duty
TSA: Oh, O.K. go on through then

So I walk through with my polo shirt and 6 pack of wine bottles from the winery tour we took

-------------------------------------------------------

1 month ago was reporting for a 6:00 AM flight in MLU.

Me to ASA ticket counter agent: Do we have to go through security here?
TSA Bigshot overhears and says in indignant tone: Sir you ALWAYS have to go through security EVERYWHERE, its the law
Me: Well, O.K. we will, but just to let you know, we don't go through security at about half of our outstation cities and also don't in ATL
TSA Nazi pulls a pad and pen out: Where EXACTLY lets you bypass security. I need to check this out!
Me: Someday I'll give you the list of all the airports that make us go through security, it'll be a shorter list

-------------------------------------

3 months ago, going through security at unnamed airport. some pax given orange laminated cards selected for "additional screening"

Go around the corner and find......a table full of orange cards thrown down by pax who don't feel like the additional screening.

When I mention this to a TSA guy he ignores me but he does order additional screening for me (I guess I was a troublemaker)

-------------------------------------------------

Like posted before, I have no problem going through security if it makes everybody feel better. I just hate the attitude, ignorance and inconsistancy.
