I'll have to second the thoughts for the future at TSA. Don't seem to be much there if you're junior. I'm gone too. Got a call with an offer and the next week, furloughs.

Good luck guys! I would love to fly on the wall in whore house (GJ crew room) when those GJ turds find out they are going on the same list since Hulas' American flying can't stand a TSA strike.

TSA absolutely sucks. Why interview or remain employed at a company who wants to furlough when they really didnt need to. I flew with an FO who couldnt drop a trip because of "NO COVERAGE"? Well, that cant mean they are overstaffed, can it? I believe this furlough has to do with other things, most recently 2 elected union officials have gotten their jobs back, with a third awaiting his positive outcome as well. The company would rather place fear and uncertainty in it's own pilot group and not let the pilot group think the union is returning to "power" . Talk about self righteousness. Anyway, if you can get another interview, and even better, the job offer. You really have no choice but to leave. At the end of the furlough, you'd still have more seniority at your new airline then you would if you'd gone back to TSA. In fact, when they do call, lie to them and tell them you'll be back for class. When they are waiting for pilots who dont show, that's the ultimate FU&^ You to them.

Take the SIC rating and the proverbial 10K in training and RUN, there is no training contract!!!!

The grass is greener, from what i hear. AN almost 3 year FO put in his two weeks to go to NETJETS on FRIDAY, stating he would rather work for a company that is more in line with his goals. CLASSIC!!!! The hardest part is making the decision, not how much money or seniority you think you will be losing, becuase in the long run you'll be making more becuase you will upgrade quicker, but most importantly be happier.

Where do you think you'll be happier in 5-7 years? For pilots using a regional to gain experience for a better job a 5-7 year stay is typical. For some it can be longer since there are always more pilots than jobs. For some the regional turns into a career. If you're living where you want to live pulling in 80-100K it's not an easy decision to give up the security and decent paycheck for a commute and a chance of being furloughed..

Hi!

I think that, basically, 100% of ex-TSA pilots who went to AWAC/Skywest would agree that they took a massive step up. It is NOT a lateral move. The one exception would be if you live in STL and want to stay there and not commute...then TSA looks better.

I've heard AWAC will be opening LAS as a base. Since they own part of USAir, and because of the merger, I'm sure AWAC won't be stuck in the NE for long.

I was furloughed from TSA and didn't go back. I think I made the right choice.

Where did you hear that we would be opening LAS? Nothing we are hearing says that. But if it turns out there would be many happy AWAC people.

A LAS base for AWAC?? Hmmmm, have never heard anyone mention that rumor on company grounds. Even though a westward move is theoretically possible considering our company's current state, it seems as if we are pushed to limit with our current fleet and flying as it stands today on the East coast. Seems as is MCI is as far "west" as we will go for now! Should we get more planes (haven't heard that either), then I would consider thinking about the rumor you have allegedly heard. I would love to know who your "source(s)" is/are. Honestly, I'm not trying to go for your juggular, just a little surprised by this particular rumor. Thanks...

Hi!

Doug Parker was quoted as saying AWAC's contract is "not optimal". What does that tell you?

Personally, I think it means no soup for AWAC. LAS base? LOL.

Oooooorrrrr..... It's not optimal so he wants to make it optimal by getting us some 900s! Woooowhooo!! You heard it here first!

You hit it on the nuts. The only reason we are not optimal is because of the 50 seaters. Remember we have a seat on the board at airways. If anyone could finagle somthing its that dingleberry.

Anyway, I like it here. Yeh I now drive 1.5 hours to catch a flight to PHL which totally sucks arse but I got my second bid choice and only need one hotel. Its slowly improving and the rig and benefits pay. Last year I made $23/hr for 2 mo and 34 for the rest of the year and made over 40k. we had a baby and total of $15 out of pocket expense for that.

I've heard the LAS rumor quite a bit the last month, but I'd say its more wishful thinking than anything. A LAS base would be great...it'd get the senior guys from out west outta PHL and raise me up in relative seniority!

:D

That is something we do forget... benefits. I too have a baby on the way and paid just 15 bucks for the first visit and everything since has been covered. And my monthly insurance payment for family insurance is I believe about 60-70 bucks. Our 401k ain't shabby either with the match and I like TRowePrice. The rigs are nice and thank gawd for 100% dh pay. Those ORF guys would be getting killed if we didn't have that. Hell, they could dh me for 4 days straight and I'd get paid the same. And how about that one pairing with the PHL-BDL-PIT-HPN DH! Man! Could you imagine 1/2 pay for DH doing that? I'd be pissed.

1:2 duty. 1:4 trip rig (not so great but it's there) Per diem could be better and will come up a tad this year.

We just got a bump from our wage adjustment mechanism that I never expected to pay off. So, yah, contract at AWAC, even this concessionary contract does not suck totally. Now, keep your fingers crossed for the arbitration in June (or was it July of next year?). Maybe we get our old contract and back pay. Man, wouldn't that be a hoot. We won the qualification issue grievance a few years back. We could win this one too.

Run Away and never look back. TSA is a sh!tty place. I was there in summer 2001 with ATPCLIFF. They pulled us into a room after 9/11 and said "if your a turboprop pilot you can take a voluntary furlough or we are going to fire you". When I asked the union rep what was going on he told me "sounds like a no brainer, take the furlough". The TSA union is worthless. I'm at SkyWest now and the company is 1000 times better. Get out now and you will be much happier.
