You know what I think Colgan has come a long way in the last couple of years and I love it. I also think that anyone on this board that works for us loves it too. It is the other people who do not work for us who hate us. I want to hear from the regular posters who reply to the Colgan threads who actually work for us. I think we have a pretty good thing going on here.

Obvious flame.

Not matter who you work for, anyone who flies 1900s and SF340s for a parent airline = a crappy place to work.

And not to mention that any pilot who is flying TProps in this day and age is behind the power curve.

Jump,

I was about to jump on this post and write about the good AND bad of working for Colgan, but you don't deserve that. Why do you have to diss a company you know nothing about to make yourself feel better?

George,

Quit kicking another guy in the junk just because he's a tool. Articulate your point without stooping to his level. You're smarter than that.

Sorry for the bash.

If you're happy at Colgan, then that is all that matters. What is boils down to is finding the airline with the best fit for you. All I can say is that many 2nd year regional FOs are making more than some Colgan captains.

Heck, pay me enough to fly a kite and I'll do it.

Sorry for the disrespect.

Whether this is flame or not, I believe that most people would agree that this is an ignorant comment. I don't work for Colgan, but I do fly a Tprop. On the East Coast, we do many of the same routes that the RJ's are flying, carrying the same number of people. Do we really need to fly a jet from PHL to ABE or MDT? I think not. If you think the flying is a waste of time just because it is a prop, that's your opinion, I think it is wrong, but you're entitled to it anyway. If I seem a little defensive on the topic, it's because I am. We have to defend our airplane daily from the onslaught of stupid questions coming from the back. Sure it is a little louder and slower than a jet, but you don't need a 757 to go to Ithaca, NY. I got hired to fly a Turboprop and don't regret one hour of my time in it.

It's not flame. You're right, you don't need a 757 to fly to Ithica, NY. However, I have seen many people get their hours at PDT, CA or Colgan and move onto a jet regional, where 2nd year pay is above CA pay at many of those companies.

Over the last few years, SKYW, CHQ and Mesa have seen explosive upgrades. I remember I posted a few years ago that anyone who went to any one of those companies would be a captain in a couple years. I was right.

It's all a crap shoot. My friend left a regional as a senior FO a couple of years ago to go to NJA. We all thought he was dumb. He recently upgraded there and is making about 86K/year base.

You need to maneuver yourself to make the best gains. But, wherever you're happiest is indeed the best place.

Jump,

Apology accepted. Always love me some Coolio, but it was incidental. I don't see the reference, where was it?

Colgan is definitely a different airline. For some, different is good. The pay is average... until you get into the 2nd year FO pay. Trust me, upgrade is WELL OVER a year, I don't know who's been drinking the cool-aid, but it's going on 24 months. There are a few FO's who are in the 3rd year FO pay. Not by choice, either. Since it's a family-run company, no one can say boo about that either. Outstation base is good, although would suck if you got jerked around a lot from base to base. If you're in the same base for an extended period of time, you have time to develop relationships and get to know a place like Lebanon. Outstation bases also attract end-of-the-liners... guys who have less than 10 years to retirement and join up with this airline who is based in town so they can be home every night. The one I'm thinking about is a waterhead. Per-Diem is AWOL. You have to sing for your supper in an UPGRADE INTERVIEW, which wouldn't be so bad if it qualified as the type oral exam. But it's not, so it's just a witch-hunt and a Spanish Inquisition wrapped up into an awkward 4-on-1 Colgan meatball sandwich.

I would talk about the good, but it's wrapped up in the previous paragraph, between the heartburn and the long upgrade. I think it's Stockholm Syndrome or something that makes me say that I know it's a bad place, but I still like it there. I wish I were about 20 numbers more senior, get the upgrade in seniority, and paid about $10 more per-hour, but I'll take the good working relationship we've got with management and scheduling.

I have to give it to you new Colgan guys... George D to be more specific. You can start a meaningless thread about any old crap, put a Colgan title on it, and make it go 10+ pages..

Keep up the good work!

I don't mind turboprops. I just didn't realize that I was getting behind the power curve. I had better start sending out some resumes to all the crj and erj operators. First I'll have to change my Objective line to: To stay ahead of the power curve by flying something without props.

RJ class here I come!!!!

If you read my posts, you'll see I was specifically refering to pay differences.

What regional 2nd year FO's are making over 40 bucks an hour?

I went over 50k as a Captain and havent been there 3 years. How many RJ FO's make that and get to log P..........I.............C?
Treating per diem as income is like depending on overtime for salary. It isnt realistic. They pay you per diem because you are living in sometimes crappy hotel rooms and eating crappy food. Shupubliqua lists 1.60 and hour per diem on airlinepilotcentral. That is about 38 bucks a day. An average meal is going to cost you 7-10 bucks. That doesnt include any other items along the way on a 4 day trip. So per diem is just about used up. Of course there are those who want to scrape and scrounge to survive so they can call per diem take home salary..... sounds like ********************ty QOL. Years of hard work to basically eat from garbage? I guess they are right about not needing to much brains to fly an RJ if you would subject yourself to that. Living on the road sucks.... plain and simple. Hotels suck.... plain and simple. Commuting sucks.... plain and simple. If you have to do any of those.... you better be making beaucoup coin. How many RJ FO's can claim that. NONE. So at Colgan you can sleep in your own bed and eat better and live easier for some. CJC is certainly far from the end all of aviation jobs..... but it can be worse. Everything is relative to the individual. Flying is flying is flying. Planes go up and then they come down..... people sit in the back.... it pollutes the hell out of the environment.... wings hold them up and wheels put them down and since the earth isnt growing they all go back and forth to the same places everyday. If you get all tickled down in your nether regions about what your plane looks like and how cool you think it is just wait until you get your hands on your first girl..... you will forget all about whether your plane sucks or blows because that is what she is for. Those in life that complain the loudest..... usually always complain no matter what they are doing or where they are doing it and they usually arent very good at what they do. Those who have the greatest worth as people can make it work no matter what they do or where they do it. This is just a job....an actitivity most used to pay to do as a hobby. It has many negative aspects but few in the world can claim they do everyday what they dreamed of doing. We all bash each other and the companies we work for but it is still in bored fun and we all agree MESA sucks.... but we are all doing the same thing. We make the best of what we have and try to enjoy each day we are above ground and hopefully we will get lucky to improve on our personal situations. Everyone wants to make 200,000 and work a few days a month and go to exotic places but that just isnt possible except for maybe a few. CJC did alright by me. They gave me a job at a time when the industry was taking a lot of jobs away. Did some challenging flying, met some pretty cool people, made some money and got some FA ass. I bet there is a lot of all that going on in a lot of other places too.

I'd figure any pilot riding your mother in this day in age is behind the power curve.

Next time your flying as an FO, sometime over the next 5-10 years, ask the guy sitting to your left where he started out in the airline industry.

last time i checked, pay was usually secondary to PIC time (within reason). if pilots want to be high paid RJ gear slingers, that's great. i think most will want to upgrade, get the time and then move on to bigger things. although, with the amount of pilot farm tools that drink the kool-aid filling the right, and sometimes left seats of regional aircraft, the majors are geting harder to get to.

i totally agree. ask anyone that knows any real answers to airline economics and they will say that RJ's just about killed this industry.

Why are you simply unable to stick to the topic without having to question someone's sexuality?

Sounds to me that YOU ARE the one not comfortable with your sexuality!

Upgrade is 2 years.. not so short buddy, especially considering 2nd year pay blows. This whole Colgan operation is a clusterfu*k; degenerates from top to bottom.

If he was questioning their sexuality there would have been a question mark after what he wrote. He was making a statement about their sexuality. Here's another statement---P!SS OFF and bring that obvious joy to fly with greedypilot with you.

Here's a lesson in economics dumba$$. Each month you wait out your contract you are foregoing another month at that huge chokeonacockwa second year f/o pay. It all washes out in the end (you're familiar with stuff washing out your end, aren't you?). So cut your losses and see above post.
