So, I have the 22" roller board and the handle is stuck in the partial up position. I called the repair place in DFW and they had 40 bags waiting for handles. Something about the last batch Travelpro got was wrong and everything is backed up.

Anybody ever fix these things your self?

Yeah, call up travelpro and they'll send you a replacement part. Easy 20 minute repair.

This is where I would suggest actually reading my post!

Rynn's Luggage 1400 I-35 East Suite 108 Carrollton, TX 75006 800-247-7966. They fix Travel pro.

I read it and I still think that you should get the parts from Travelpro. Trying to fix the handle without replacement parts would be difficult. Also, quit being such an ASS.

LOL, I guess you missed my :) . It was in jest ...

I want to get it fixed by Travel pro but the prospect of waiting over a month for a part...makes me wonder if anybody has gone the DIY route.

You don't get it. Travelpro farms out repair to local shops. That's there the backlog is. They will also ship YOU the necessary parts and with a little mechanical ingenuity, you can fix it yourself.

I guess I admited defeat to early...I will call Travel Pro monday and see what the deal is.

Thanks

If you call Travelpro, and not one of their worthless repair shops, they will UPS you the repair parts and you can fix it yourself. Unless the parts warehouse is completely out of handles, you should get one at your door within 10 days. Look up the number for customer service on the website and call them. If the bag is still under warranty, there will be no charge. I've even had them send me a pair of wheels for free with no shipping. Stay away from the "approved" repair shops because they will just gouge you. And next time, don't buy a Travelpro!

UHM, EXCUSE ME..... Last I checked, Rynn's was not a worthless shop. Never paid a dime after getting my back fixed there. Just go drop it off. Under warantee. I put roller blade wheels on my bag. Just takes a screw driver.

UHM, EXUSE ME..... Last I checked I hadn't heard of Rynn's. So unless there is a Rynn's in every city with a major airport, they are worthless to me. Call travel pro and fix the bag yourself. Also, why pay for rollerblade wheels that wear out in about 6 weeks when Travel Pro will send you new ones free of charge???

To fix the handle .... chunk the piece of crap. Travel Pro is proabaly one of the worst bags I have ever has the misfortune to own.

Witht that being said. Find a local dealer of Travel Crap...I mean Travel Pro and they should have a local repair shop that will fix the handle for ya. I just had my back up bag, the travel pro, repaired for the exact sam reason.

TruckDriver - Yeah , those stock wheels were crap. I went and bought roller bladewheels and bearings. It was amazing how it transformed the suitcase. It really wanted to go...very fast. I was impressed when I was running through the terminal to catch flights.

TravelPros are junk. If you're looking for a cheap bag, the best bag to go with is an Atlantic. Built to last a little longer, but still a cheap bag.

The cable from the button to the release pins has broken. I gave up on TravelPro the second time it happened to mine. It is easily repaired, but it's going to happen again.

My 22" travelpro has the same problem. Have to wrestle with it to lower it, or karate chop it. Very amusing for passengers.
Thanks for the broken cable explanation. Anyone tried removing the pins?
Would that work. Can that be done by yourself?

to the nwa fa's: bravo!! We're proud of you. At least we are not the only ones telling mgmt. "kiss my a**, that is all you need, and all you get."
nwa- 100 million dollar profit in July, BEFORE imposition of cuts!!
Bet nwa alpa and machinists are mad as hell (at themselves).

TravelPro handle repair

Unzip the linning on the inside of the suit case. There you will find the handle track. There are ball plungers that pop into holes on the track when the handle is extended. Take WD-40 and spray the ball plungers. Move the handle up and down and few times, before you know it the handle will work great. You can also spray WD-40 into the top of the handle where it enters into the bag. I also replaced the wheels with roller blade wheels, it is like a new bag.
Good Luck.

Vanguard: Thank you very much! Will do it today...is there anything wd-40 can't fix?

Thanks for the advice!

And to answer the wheel question 76MM will work great in there. However, I had to go to Lowes and buy a few nylon washers to go around the axle because the wheel had some side to side play.

I think what really slows the suitcases down is when the wheel wears. It goes from rounded to flat. And that really slows it down.

What a POS that thing is. I just repaired mine (temporarily) this weekend. You can try the unzip the liner and lube process. My problem was the cross beam in the handle was broken. Take out the four screws in the handle and check it. If it's broken you can glue the he!! out of it like my room mate did with his, or you can stuff the broken side full of heavy paper like I did. This leaves one side pin permanently plunged and allows the good side to work. Or you can send it to who knows where and or order parts or what ever. Or you can throw it in the dumpster. Good luck.

Was just trying to help, take it or leave it. And take a chill truck. Sounds like you can't respect other peoples experiences. I posted the contact info for you, since you didn't know about it...

Just got off the phone with TravelPro...WOW.

The handles are NO LONGER covered under warranty. I said ok...why is that? She said there is a new manager and that is a new policy. I told her she must like people severing their relationship with Travelpro.

Anyways new handles cost 7.50 to 12.50.

They are back ordered because of a mix up. She said one - two weeks on back order.

That is nuts.

The best way (IMO) to repair your Travelpro is to chuck the piece of sh!t in the dumpster and order a Luggageworks/PNT bag. Its not a cheap fix, but it is one you can do yourself in minutes!

Being a disgruntled TP bag owner, I made a trek to the aforementioned discount warehouse that was previoulsy mentioned but apparently the post was removed.

The 22" bags available for $89 are now $99. However, I was unable to find it in my favorite color of Black--green, beige, and blue, but no black! Maybe they had a run on Black after the free adverstisement.

Can anyone confirm that this bag comes in the absence of color, color? There were a selection of duffle style roller bags next to the others in black--but no thanks to duffles; I had enough of that in the military.

Maybe, I hit the store on the wrong day!

I agree with everything you say BoilerUP, except that instead of throwing my Travelpro in the dumpster I think I'll throw it in the middle of my street and dump some gas on it and light it on fire. Therapy indeed. Cheers!

Where are you guys getting the roller blade wheels? I went to every sporting goods store on the East coast, Dick's doesn't even carry rollerblades any more. Thanks

Or you could get a job at UPS and get a FREE travelpro when hired and a FREE replacement every two years!
