Has anyone had an issue getting the 24 month transponder certification done? I'm coming due and last time I went to my local maintenance shop they were stumped by my Carbon Cub, I think they weren't setup for my pitot tube or something. What's involved in this and again, any problems getting it done?

Some avionics technicians don't understand this transponder.

There is no need to "put it in air" by pumping up the pitot. Garmin provides a ground test mode specifically for use in the periodic transponder test. Note that pumping the pitot without static connected to the test set can destroy the GSU 25C pressure sensors.

Open the transponder GUI, then press MENU, then select Enable Maintenance Test:

Awesome info - thanks! The beauty of forums and asking and great people participating.

When I went to check on my plane two years ago I told him, if you're going to do more harm than good please stop. And he did. He wasn't sure what to do and I wasn't happy with what I was seeing.

As to the topic of updating the transponder, I assume the version is on the G3X LRU list? I need to compare what I have installed vs what's available from Garmin.

Transponder information is available on several pages but the most detail is available in System Information. I don't have a screen shot of the expanded info for the transponder.

Can an owner with a repairman certificate sign off the 24 month transponder certification by running the above test?

It isn't a test. It puts the transponder in a state in which it can be tested. So no, needs an avionics tech with a calibrated test set.
