I hear Transmeridian is calling people to interview next month for the 757. Does anyone know where they fly the 757s,crew bases?
Anyone know what the pay or schedule is like?

TMA is interviewing this week. You need a LOR to get an interview and they are hiring UAL,DAL and USAIR furloughee's WITHOUT asking you to resign.

A lot of ex-KIWI and rEAL pilots here as well as Express One guys.

The 757 bases are ORD,SWF,JFK. and the 727 bases are SYR,DTW,DFW,and SAT. They just started schelduled flying out of SYR to Orlando Sanford and San Juan. The scheldule is 16 "work days" and the rest off with a starting salary of $35,000 a year.
You can earn more by flying on your days off.

Upgrades in the 727 are running under a year, and they have hired off of the street 757 Captains. I understand it is pretty competitive to get an interview right now with all the applicants having a TON of heavy Jet time.

Nice for us SYR based guys. Got 3 days off JS to Disney or PR for some fun. Will they take multiple JS's? Like three or 4 allegheny guys lookin to party down south, it hasn't been above 70 degrees here yet. What about FA's, will they let our FA's JS ? Gotta bring the "mobile party" along.

Nice, like our own personal shuttle, thanks TMA

Lakeviewa,

The 757's fly to Mexico and all the islands that make up the lower carib. Some of the 757 flying is Ad-Hoc charters. Mostly TNT, Apple Vacations, etc.....

Hope it helps..

Got a call for an upcoming TMA interview for a 757 position.
I haven't call back yet to schedule it.
I need to know more about the company (Pay/Schedule/Base/Upgrade etc) from anybody in the know.
I have surfed the board for old postings and the pay looks pretty bad (35,000$/Yr) but it was old intel.
Anybody has any fresh news ?

Thanks in advance

Later. :D

I think they fly the 757 twice a week from SYR to LAS. They just bought some MD's to replace some of the older 727's. Flew them from FLL to SYR in March and had a nice flight, but I see they are dropping this direct Service for the off season.

The SYR-LAS flights have been on a 727 unless they changed recently.
Here I go again, but that seems like a real stretch for a 722, almost 1900 NM. Seems to me I remember reading where TransMeridian lost a deal from the NYC area, because their 727's kept having to divert to an alternate. It's really almost a transcon, and I don't remember too many 722's doing transcons in their day.

its none ya said:
Man I hope you are kidding. Given the runway the 722 can do that no problem.

Reserch before you open you mouth
I'm opening my mouth again. Here's the article:

Interstate Jet flights to stop at Stewart Airport

By Nicoletta Koveos
Times Herald-Record

Stewart Airport – Interstate Jet will take its final flight from Stewart International Airport on Thursday. The company is stopping flights to Las Vegas because the service was no longer economically feasible, said Cary Evans, a spokesman with Interstate Jet.

"It's a culmination of factors, mostly related to the aircraft, the crews not being available," Evans said. "And they would be available again sometime late in August, we're just not going to be able to stretch the rubber band from here to August."

Interstate Jet has had a rocky run at Stewart Airport. Interstate Jet started flights to Los Angeles on May 22 and then to Las Vegas on May 29. The flights were operated by TransMeridian Airlines for Interstate Jet.

Flights to Los Angeles were short-lived because the aircraft used, a Boeing 757-200, had to be replaced with a smaller aircraft, a Boeing 727. The new aircraft couldn't make the nonstop flight to Los Angeles. It turned out that the aircraft couldn't make the flights to Las Vegas' McCarran International Airport either. The plane had to stop repeatedly because it couldn't handle the distance without landing to refuel.

The airline was losing money. "That is not the kind of service that we wish to have at our airport," said Kiran Jain, marketing director at Stewart, referring to the continual refueling stops.

Jain said direct flights to Las Vegas from Stewart would be ideal. "Vegas is a very very good market; it's a matter of getting the right carrier," Jain said. "Once that 757 didn't happen, there's been a lot of issues after that. It's very difficult to try and stimulate a market when the equipment is not the right equipment."

Because bookings to Las Vegas were successful, Stewart Airport's future looks promising, Evans said. "I think we've laid the groundwork for other carriers to look at Stewart for this route," Evans said. "You've got a great group of people that are managing and operating that airport. The community should appreciate their efforts even though they don't always pan out."

We do operate the LAS-SYR-LAS and LAS-SWF-LAS weekly with a B-727 (Super/ R722) with aux tanks. It's a good thing SWF has a long runway since we depart somewhere in the 200k lbs range. Really sux though making that 5 hour trip twice a week.

72's will most likely be around for the next year or so but will eventually be replaced with MD-80's as they come online in the comming months. Overall TMA is not a bad place to work for a supplimental carrier.

First Captains trip on the 727-200 (non aux tank ), May, 1989

SLC - ANC
Ramp weight - 179,800 lbs
OAT 82 F
elev 4227'
1873 nm.
blk time - 4:25
fuel burn - 40,940 lbs
block fuel - 50,000

I know it's not "1900 nm" but thought it was close enough for argument sake. Also, the tanks were not full.

Can you say "Training Contract"? I can! (1.5 Years or so last I heard). No pay/hotel in training. Training is about 3 months (from start to Online).

I interviewed and was offered a position as a MD-80 captain or 757 F/O back in Feb. I declined both. No training contract on the 757, 18 month training contract on the MD-80. NO vacation, low pay, health bennies extremely high (almost 500-600 a month for family) base changes like the wind depending on contracts, out of seniority furloughs (thats right, if you are on the 727, and they start to park them, you are SOL, on the street, heard it straight from the director of training)

I will say they are a straight up during the interview....they will tell you exactly what the job entails. Its not for everyone, but considering the times it might be an opportunity for some!

All:

I saw TM flying out of SWF to LAS and like stated earlier, they are properly equipped for this. They are using Super 727 (aux tanks and upgraded lateral engines). Should not be too much of a problem for them.

On the other hand, the MD-80's will certainly not make that leg.

Good luck to all going there.

All for now,
