Hey Hairy Arse,

Stop picking on the 1900 guys. At least those guys know how to fly gosh darnit! Im a proud ex1900 driver! It made me the pilot I am today. I know my flying skills will never be as good again.

Fly Safe,
Bigmeat

thanks BigMeat!!

yeah, but it makes you a good pilot. You just proved my point.

No, flying 120 hrs a month makes you a tired pilot not a good pilot. Like I said, you still have a lot to learn.

Have you ever done a transcon? Did my first a few weeks ago. Nice simple 5:45 time en route 'babysitting' the autopilot while doing revisions and eating first class sundaes. Not so fast sjs kid.

Dealt with a long deice line, bucked 200 knot headwind, and moderate mountain wave chop over the Rocks. Nothing more then typical issues at the office, but enough to give me a very clear thought in my head upon landing in LA. That was quite simply: thank god I'm going to the hotel and not back to EWR.

Obviously the fine aviators that did jet transcons back in the 707 days understood how I felt quite well. See these individuals at companies like AA, TWA, and UAL (who helped make this industry as safe as it is) never saw the need to push for turns in the quest for 'productivity'. Now some fellas in blue shirts come along and seem to think they now better. In the past I deferred to the elders and their experience. Now I can speak from experience when I say this idea is just plain retarded.
Well said.

Continental, I know of does not do transcon turns. They do international turns down to South America with IRO's. One trip in particular leaves like at 2330 and does not get back until 1330 the next day. It is like 10 or 11 hours of flying in the 737. The destination is CCS, I believe.

Dont worry crashman, you dont want to learn anything from this guy. Else you too might end up stuck at some dirtbag non-sched supplemental.

You've got to love these new breed of "aviatiors" they think they are smart in wanting to work more hours and more days for less money then do it until they are all but dead(65). So much for what used to be an honored profession, now were all being turned into a bunch of Nortons and Kramdens.

So how is doing transcon turns and working less a bad thing? If you would be senior enough to hold them you could do ten 9 or 10 hr transcons a month and there is your 90-100 hour month. You would spend no time in a hotel and if you are a commuter then you can bid the other trips. How is only having to work 9 or 10 days a month working harder? Would you rather do 4 day trips and spend most of your life in a hotel? I would rather fly the extra hours all at once and have more time off. time in a hotel = wasted time that you could be at home.

Whoah...90-100 hours a month?

Easy there Newman...no need to get crazy here. Let's all get our act together and start thinking more clearly. Ok, 80 hour guarantees...nice...average lines built to around 75 hours....good....14 days a month of work...ok, we can work that down a bit...let's shoot for more like 12....there we go..12 days, 75 hours, paid for 80...

Next lesson we will work on pay ;0)

You gotta love those old, crotchety pilots that throw stereotypes around like breath mints.

(no, I don't like transcon turns either)

Used to work 9-10 days a month, 82 hr cap for 105hr ( NB Co-pilot). Now you want me to work 9-10 day/mon. flying 100hrs for 76 hr. I think I preferred the old way I have all the jet time I need. This current let's fly 100hrs/month mentallity has me more fatigued with my 19 days a month off than my better half is flying boxes all night 12 days/mon. I need 5+ days/mon. just to recover.

What makes you think if they change the daily limit that companys won't lobby to change the monthly and yearly also? How about we fly 10 hrs/day 5 days a week for 30 bucks/ hr. We can turn it into a full blown bus driving job.
