A friend of mine has an interview at Trans Exec this week. He has some questions that I told him I'd try to help him with. Can anyone help?

Looking for...

GIV or GV FO salary, including industry standards
What kind of schedule?

Thanks!

Are those the GIV's with the LX tail numbers? Seems like they're BUSY.

I have no idea if that is them or not.

Someone else PM'ed me and said they work an average of 17 days a month. Does this sound right? Any hard days off?

Don't know them personally, but they have a reputation out west of being a good operation. A friend of mine has spoken to them and is going to interview with them soon. I'm sure he'll be able to post more details after that.

If you friend is asking about schedules, tell them to look into the airlines or corporate. Anyone who's flown charter knows there is NO schedule, I'm sure this job is no different. They've been advertising alot which also would make me wonder why.

He's asking about schedules because I was PM'd that the pilots only fly 17 days a month. Trying to figure out if there are any hard days off.

They have a reputation all right, just not the one you described. They have a reputation of leaving their passengers on the airplane during an evacuation and descending on top of another airplane during an approach.

Yes, the LX G-V's are operated by Scam-Exec, owned by the Olson twins.

Are you talking about when Jim Carrie's Gulfstream hit SunQuest's BE90? Was that a Trans-Exec aircraft? If so, that's not a very well deserved "reputation". The IFR Gulfstream and the VFR BE90 were both cleared to land on 16R at the same time weren't they? One plane was on the ILS while the other was flying a flat, low final, correct? Why not say SunQuest has a reputation for getting run over?

As for leaving pax onboard: Are you referring to the jet that went off the end of 16R and the crew just got out and walked away (I think there's video of it somewhere)? That was BAD. Was that also Trans-Exec? I can't believe they were involved in two of the most infamous accidents in KVNY history.

Up until your post I had only heard good things about the LX Gulfstreams.

Jim Carrie's Gulfstream: "The Gulfstream G-1159A was operated under instrument flight rules by Trans-Exec Air Service, Inc." ... after blaming ATC, ". . .the failure of the flight crew of the other airplane [the Gulfstream] to maintain an adequate visual lookout to see and avoid the airplane." That flight crew also made sure the 30+ minutes passed inflight and on the ground, effectively clearing the CVR.

If you're on an ILS and in VMC, it's still your job to see and avoid, especially at VNY.

The second:
"On February 16, 1999, at 1306 Pacific standard time, a Grumman G-1159 (Gulfstream GII), N711TE, sustained substantial damage when it departed the end of runway 16R after landing at the Van Nuys, California, airport. The airline transport pilot licensed captain, first officer, cabin attendant, and sole passenger were not injured. Trans-Exec Air Service, Inc., was operating the flight as an on-demand, domestic, passenger flight under the provisions of 14 CFR Part 135." . . .
"The pilot performed inadequate in flight planning and decided to continue the approach and landing with excessive airspeed. The pilot failed to follow company directives, which required a go around under the encountered flight conditions. This led to a long landing, resulting in an overrun and collision with parked airplanes." . . . "The aircrew did not provide a safety briefing to the passenger. After the airplane came to rest, the aircrew evacuated the airplane prior to off-loading their passenger."

No, they didn't walk away, the aircrew ran away tearing off their epulets. If yer gonna crash, don't do it at VNY. The news helicopters live here. They just takeoff, hover overhead for a few, and land. News at noon! Most likely there's at least one or two already in the pattern, no need to wait.

Fly SAFE!

This is good timing guys. I've received PM's from three guys interviewing over there this week, in addition to my buddy. Anything else to add? What are the positives?

Wow, I must be out of the loop!

I haven't heard of either of these accidents. Did they happen recently? What happened to the passengers? Again, I don't know this company pesonally, and I really dislike ALL 135 ops, I'm just repeating what my friends on the west coast have told me.
