I kind of like the classics, except for that stupid NAV switch I keep forgetting. :)

Still, there is no denying the fact that SWA has issues with landing airplanes, with the same kind of problems coming up over and over again. Until this company figures out why it can't seem to fix this problem, the very idea of a SWA pilot of any origin flying a BC Loc to minimums in a Classic is a rather scary thought. Worth at least a few Ave Marias prior to starting the approach.
SWA is currently one of the safest airlines worldwide.

* Based on our annual safety calculations which include all hull loss accidents and serious incidents in the last 30 years of operations in relation to the revenue passsenger kilometers (RPK) performed in the same time. We also took into account the international safety benchmarks such as the IOSA Audit and the USOAP country factor. Furthermore we included a time weightening factor which increases the effect of recent accidents and weakening the impact of accidents in the past. All calculation data ends after a period of 30 years. Fatalities are only counted when they were on board a passenger flight. No ground casualties or 3rd party fatalities in other aircraft. All accidents that fulfills the above mentioned criteria were involved in our calculation, regardless of causes or responsibilities.

We just can't seem to safely land the airplane. :)

I think it will improve once a few of the cowboys retire. I can already see some improvements in the training department.

And getting rid of the OPC will help, too.

Unfortunately, we seem to keep having the same kind of incidents, which is actually more concerning than several random unrelated incidents. All of ours are in the approach/landing/go-around phase, with speed control especially a problem for us, apparently.

This conversation is dumb.
Air Tran pilots are pros just like us- if you want to dig on them for classics then you have to accept their dog on us going international. Bottom line, for the pros among us (99%) neither are an issue.
If I had a dollar for every time I heard an older legacy pilot say it wasn't safe for a new hire to do anything other than FE for their first year or two....

Cmon now-

I have not seen one AT pilot have a problem in the 300.

I am thinking this is turning into an urban myth.

I've only had one FAT guy have a problem in the 300. He had problems in the 700 too. Former 737 captain was the most disturbing part. Hardest three day of my career. Everyone else has been GREAT!

I've been enjoying flying the antiques.... Err, classics. Havent had to do it in the summer, though.

Btw, haven't flown with a doorknob yet. :D
