Are you allowed to jumpseat home on the weekends during training? How long does it normally take to receive your company ID?

Do most get a crashpad after the free hotel stays are used ? Anyword on where the newhires will be based in the first two June classes? Length of reserve at CVG, GSO, and JFK?

Thanks in advance for the responses...

You are allowed to go home during your breaks, but not jumpseat. The pass bureau will arrange travel for you (non-rev of course) until you have access to book your own (1 month). You're not allowed to jumpseat since technically you are not yet an active crewmember... I wouldn't play around with this one. You should have your ID by 1 week. Most do get a crashpad after the week, and they're very easy to find. An ad board in the training center filled with them, mostly $150/mo.

As far as the reserve questions and base assignments, I can't help much. When do you start?

You can't jumpseat until you pass your checkride. A newhire was fired a couple years ago for doing this.

Newhires not based in CVG will be provided a hotel room for all of training.

The question is... Are new hires being based in CVG until after sim? There are no new hires listed on the JFK award with plenty who have been told they are JFK bound..

I hear they are sending people to the YUL sim again... You'll get a hotel and per diem there.

Our class got our base assignments during our first week in class. Classes behind us have also gotten their assignments relatively early. They told us they weren't placing new hires into JFK for another month or so, though I guess the possibility certainly exists that some CVG-based newhires might be displaced. That is correct about YUL, not enough sims in CVG to handle everyone.

Are they putting the GSO newhires in a hotel the entire time and giving them per diem??

Hotel: Yes
Per Diem: No

Hotel yes, per diem no. Those going to Montreal for sims will get per diem for their time there. Comair has been great about helping out those that will only be in CVG during training. As far as I knew going into training, if I got based in GSO I'd have to get a crash pad for a couple months here, so it was a welcome surprise when they provided the hotel rooms for the GSO folks.

Got an interview in 2 weeks, any words O' wisdom. I haven't had an interview since early in 2001.

I talked to Jennifer yesterday and recieved the application package this morning!! Thats pretty darn fast.

fleeing the northland, well maybe.....

sure, just don't miss you flight back or you might want to stay home.

or beg a pass from a buddy already at Comair

NO...You don't want to do this..

The CMR pass department will write you a pass to go home.. These are S3 passes and go by your DOH. Any pass you get from a buddy will be at the S4 level and their DOH.. S3 always better than S4.

We had a guy in our class go home during a ice storm. He didn't make it back. They just threw him in the next class, the only thing that sucked was he was more senior than me and got to keep his number.

Not being able to get back because a major weather event is a little different than not getting on the plane because of a non rev event. In general terms, if you don't make it back on Monday, you aren't welcome back.

That being said, I flew home to the west coast every weekend.

Any newhires being based in MCO? I'm guessing it's pretty senior but thought I'd ask since I commute out of there.

Probationary checkride tomorrow. It's so close I can almost taste it (second year pay). Just don't F up the sim right? Hopefully I'll be sitting back with beer in hand this time tomorrow. Hey chperplt, why you still on reserve? Gotta have those weekends huh? :)

Nope...12 or so away next month.

Who did you blow to get a line AGAIN next month?????

Enjoy the checkride and 2nd year pay!!!

So as a new hire what should I expect to make my first year with the company?

Hello,
I estimate it to be about $22,275 @ $23.00/hr. with a 75 hour gaurantee, plus per diem @ $1.75. Not too bad for first year pay, and it goes up to $37.00 on the 200 and $41.00 on the 700. This translates into a reasonable wage for an F/O.

Contract?

What's Comair training contract like or do they have one? Are they going to be hiring into the JFK base at all?

Website says 1200TT/200M
http://www.comair.com/hr/pilots/
But what's competitive? How long have present F/O been on reserve? Thanks!

No training contract.

Yes, many (most) new hires will be going to JFK for a little while anyway.

Who know what's competitive these days.. If you meet the mins, send in a resume if you want to work for Comair.

Reserve time will depend on your base. Right now, reserve is running 18-24 months but that will decrease. Some new hires going to JFK will get a line right away.

Very good question Jobear. I was told by planning that they will be mainly 3 and 4 day trips and commutable at that. I've heard Fred say that because the base will be made up of mostly commuters, he wants commutable trips to aviod a glut of sick calls or commuter calls.

We'll find out in about 5 weeks how bad they are.

They have a cog test which replaced the sim portion a while ago. It's nothing you can study for and isn't that big a challenge.

How does GSO look for a newhire?
