Tortured while waiting for pax

So here I am doing another pilot lounge day waiting on pax at an out of the way airport. Low traffic, not much to see locally, and I already did lunch. The “crew area” is less than ideal, but at least it has a TV. EXCEPT it only gets one station and this happens to be Sunday with an NBA game on. Orlando versus Dallas. This is the main problem.

I managed to watch about 10 minutes of the 3rd quarter. By this time, I’m not sure what feeling was more prevalent…………disgust, sleeping, or amazement. Disgust that this “sport” was even on TV, sleeping.. self explanatory, or amazed that people would even pay money to see this no pace, no excitement, non-entertaining, overwhelmingly boring excuse for an activity.

WTF ever happened to this sport?? I’d read where nearly every statistic or tool of measure concerning the NBA was seriously declining over the past several years and how the majority of players have been charged with one type of crime or another (more so than any other sport). This game could have been the prime example why the NBA should be put to rest. Players more interested in how they looked than played, fans just about asleep in the stands, no tempo, no scoring, no hustle, no anything. If I were only listening to the cheering, it would have been impossible to know when anyone scored.

I remember Larry, Magic, and Jordan from a few years ago. These guys actually gave a sh!t and were fun to watch…..which is pretty much what it is all about in the end. I guess ever since Jordan (even after his prime years), this sport was in its downward spiral and now it has fallen off the cliff.

My advice for all running the NBA… keep employing the criminals, up their salaries, and charge $8.50 for that coke. Very soon, their won't be any cookie left to crumble.

I'm hoping for a better TV selection today.

college sports are by far the best out there. The kids play with emotion and actually care about how the results. I would love to see the NBA and MLB go under and all the former players have to get regular jobs.

Oh yeah, and no players union to oppose DRUG and STEROID TESTING.

Granted, the NHL might be more suited for you if you enjoy watching fights, with an occasional hockey game. I've been a pretty hardcore hockey fan for the past few years. Lots of fun.

I can't watch football. I just don't understand the fascination. You don't watch one game, you watch 3. The play live, and the replay from 2 different angles, no matter how inconsequential the play. It could be the Quarterback taking a knee after picking up a bad snap and they'll still show the replay twice. Boorriiinnngggg.

And if they didn't run the clock while the players are standing around having their little circlejerks, the game would never end. Zzzzzzzzzz.

The lack of a MLB world series in 94 ended my envolvment in any professional sport.

League min in 94 was 300K, I can remember things like "we are on the road so much", blah blah. I wonder if those A holes would trade checks w/ us.

personally, i feel that the most under-rated group of professional atheletes are the members of the PBPL...for the layman or occasional fan this is the Professional Beer Pong League...and like many others said, college sport are more exciting, i couldn't agree more...look at any american school, most will have upwards of 100 or so competitive teams...This is the all american sport, anyone, and i mean anyone can play...it don't matter if your in a wheel chair (as long as your arms work), or blind (just have a friend point you in the correct direction) you can still play beer pong...and think saleries would be something in that wouldn't need to have a cap on it...competitors could have endorsement deals for everything from the new double wide, beer sponser, the company that makes the pink flamingos in the yard, or even the local bar or tavern...this is a sport for sports fans...no more $8.00 beers, or $5.00 hot dogs, you can bring your own beer and BBQ right there on the sport...who knows maybe the American Light or Natty teams will have a dynasty similar to that of the 1970's steelers...players and a play that define a sport, the Imaculate Throw, by Franco "The Tanko" Harris...or the hail mary for redemption thrown by none other than the Boston College team leader Doug Flutie...this sport has it all excitement, naked girls, and beer, what more could one ask for in the national passtime...

Man, I haven't played beer pong in probably two years. That should definitely be a new professional sport/national pastime. Doesn't matter if ya win or lose, two games later your half in the bag. That's my kind of sport!

NFL: Four fifteen minute quarters that last three hours-incredible! Physicists interested in distorting the space/time continuum should check this game out!

NBA: Same as above!

MLB: The players spend more time f**king around throwing the ball to warm up than playing the game!

What do they all have in common? The time out! - an authorized way of spoiling the cadence of the game at a most crucial time to foil the team that is winning.

Sounds like BS to me, I'd rather watch Sesame Street!

Geez, I thought I was the only one who had given up on pro sports in disgust.

It's like watching a bunch of overgrown 8th graders chase a ball around for millions of dollars, until they get old or end up in jail. Pretty boring stuff, and the strike was the turning point for me (pick any one).

I will watch a couple of Cub games on TV each year, and will probably take my kids to Wrigley field once this summer, but that's about it.

My money is going into my own recreation, not observation, (camping, fishing, skiing, hiking, beaching it, boating, etc.).

Hockey is awesome. I've played hockey for many years, and still love the sport to death. Not anyone can just go out and be good at it. It takes true talent to be a good player.

Seriously, want to know another good competition sport? NASCAR. You wouldn't think so (what's that about left traffic?), but in all actuality NASCAR is everything you could be looking for in competition sports nowadays. Teamwork, stamina, endurance, technical prowess, speed, dirt, noise, crashes, driver/brand-name association, etc.

College sports are heading the same way the professional sports have evolved too today. The only difference is the college players receive the extras under the table and are in fear of the radarscope of a useless NCAA. I don't think it is wrong to start paying the players if the NCAA remains as it is. If the schools remain on the program they are in today, they need to consider demanding payment to the school, from the professional teams that draft players before they finish a degree. I'm waiting for a class action by the NCAA against the NFL, NBA and the rest. It is in the best interest of the college and individual players to demand payback of all course fees and living expenses if the player jumps to the pros before the degree is obtained. Also the school should get a royalty of the former students athlete's pro wages. Why not? Didn't the school spend moneys training the athlete? What is the reason for a college education? It is not there as a farm team training camp for the pros.

PGA Golfers are about as skilled as anyone, it's mind blowing what they can do with a stick and a little ball. If you've ever tried to golf or are an accomplished golfer you know how frustrating a game it can be to break 80 (or even 90). Think about shooting high 60's in tournament pressure, without messing with your lie every shot.
