Those of us that spent a good many years in corporate aviation prior to the airlines will know who this is, as well as many of the old-timers....

"....TORCH LEWIS "GOES WEST"
Torch Lewis, the 2002 NBAA Platinum Wing Award-winning commentator and 1997 NBAA Doswell Award recipient, died at home last week in Florida after a long
illness. He was 80. "Torch's Greenhouse Patter column in Business &
Commercial Aviation was an institution, as was Torch himself. The business
aviation community has lost a great friend and one of its staunchest
defenders," said NBAA President Jack Olcott, "We will miss his deep voice
and sharp wit." Due to declining health, Lewis missed the NBAA 55th Annual
Meeting & Convention last September, which would have been his 50th
consecutive attendance...."

Will be missed

His tales of early corp jet flying are classic and he told his stories in a way that was hanger talk and great to read. Ex USMC, he will be remembered

That's too bad; he will be missed dearly. When I received my copy of B/CA magazine, I always turned to the last page first and read his articles. He was one of the good ones...

I started recieving B/CA a few yrs ago and Torch became the first thing I would read. Seemed like a great guy with a unique and funny ability to write. He will be missed. Gods speed.

i read one of his articles about flying Lyndon Johnson around in his pajama's in a Queen Air - it was pretty funny. (the pilot was the one in the pajama's, for some reason).
