It was the last of the pure fighters

I recall when the F-4 was on its way out and the F-14 was the new jet on the block...

The press dicked it up again. The newer fighters have long range stand off missiles as opposed to the F-14? Uh, ok...

Wasn't the whole point of the F-14 fleet defense? You know the whole Hughes radar/Phoenix missile package? I guess the author did all his research while watching Top Gun... :rolleyes: TC

The F-14 was already 20 years old (developed in 1968, production started 1970) when the F-4s were starting to head out. F-16s and F-18s were still fairly new though compared to the F-4 and F-14.

Still sad to see all the good ones being retired.
