Tired of ALPA? Got issues?

ALPA Pilots,

The ALPA Board of Directors will meet this fall....At the BOD policy will be created for the next few years... Can you take issue with ALPA and your career if you leave yourself out of the democratic process?

The BOD is comprised of your LEC/MEC reps.

If you are serious about making ALPA & the regional airlines a better place to work or making the profession better and respectable again, then step up to the plate... (yes...YOU!!)

Your LEC should have at least one, probably two meetings before the BOD. If they don't, make sure they do.....

The LEC meeting is your forum to direct your LEC & MEC reps to take your issues to the BOD.

If you don't know what I am talking about then log off of flightinfo right now and get educated. Read up on the ALPA C&BL, Admin Manual and call your LEC Reps and learn.

Unfortunately, ALPA pilots are like the majority population of Iraq. They rely on crewroom and cockpit rumor, speculation and chatter. This promotes conspiracy theories, fear of the unknown and paranoia. The cool thing is ALPA pilots can read, self educate and then decide for themsleves....

ALPA operates in a professional and pragmatic environment. Bring realistic solutions to the problems you raise. The process isn't easy but sport bitchin sure is... Grandpa never said good things come easy or life was fair...

Education is my drum and I am banging the hel1 out of it...

ALPA is a resource not a service. Look in the mirror......

Rez, I couldn't agree more with your post, especially your last line: " ALPA is a resource not a service. Look in the mirror......" I wish more pilots understood that part.
I didn't realize Flying the Line volume 2 was out yet. I got to meet Prof Hopkins at a BOD meeting (1992? or thereabouts?) , and he told me he was working on a sequel. I'll have to get it Amazoned to my house...

Man, don't pay for it. Get over to the ATA MEC office near the Blue Lot and grab one for free. I got one at the last MEC meeting. I bet if you call Diana, she would mail you one, too.

Rez, I totally support your manifesto. As an officer in a previous airline's union, I can state with experience that the majority of complainers lift not one finger to help themselves. Most issues can be handled easily with one email or phone call, but some folks value bitching over results.

I also fully recommend your reading list in your signature line. If the regular line animal would just read those three books, they would understand everything they need to know about Union / Management relations and be able to make informed decisions instead of emotional ones.

That is right....MEC offices should be able to obtain a complimentry copy of Flying the Line for thier pilots. ALPA National sent a copy to each member when it was published......

I can't speak for anyone but myself...... although I get feedback that ALPA pilots hesitate to read Flying the Line I & II for fear of being percieved as "drinking the kool aid"

First, Hopkins was told by ALPA to write it's history as he saw it and not as propaganda. There are chapters that simply show a bad side of ALPA. Every organization and individual has its blemishes.

Second, ALPA pilots should read thier history so they don't repeat it (which they do...) and.....

so they can form their own opinions and thoughts on thier profession and career!! Once educated, everyone brings something to the table. A fresh idea, motivation or even examples of how not to be...
