Does the bossman usually tip the line staff? I see lots of them helping with luggage, fueling, getting taxis but never see any palms greased...
We don't have to wear uniforms (relaxed pt 91 business) so sometimes I feel the 'eye' on me because they can't tell me from the pax... ug.
Or is my bossman just a cheap bass-turd?

To Insure Proper Service:
The boss should be tipping them and/or it should be a part of your expense account. Gotta take care of the line guys and gals.

I work at a FBO and as far as tips go i just think it amounts to how hard you bust your rear-end. I've gotten a few here and there and it mainly happens when i go "beyond the call of duty" When i fly cross countries i try to tip line guys who help out. I don't give a 15% restaurant server kinda cash but atleast a buck or two. ($1 doesnt really go that far now a days)

Tips are kinda wierd. I work on the line at an FBO in Oklahoma. I have been tipped for just being there at the aircraft when it arrives. The door opens and suddenly there is cash being tossed around. (that was from a guy in a Baron. Then you can get a GLF2 or HS125 and get nada even though you do the lav, get the bags, do the coffee and ice, air the tires, file the crews flight plans(it has been asked. But, no.), vaccum the airplane and offer them the crew car overnight. All i'm sayin is a little bit for the effort is nice, or at least a polite thank you. (Some times not even that. Grrrr!)

Grr I hate tight, rich people. At my pay I am hard pressed to be tipping out of my pocket for service offered to bossman. Maybe I can get a badge that says "Im just the Poor Pilot, Sorry my Boss is a *&$%$* Tightwad, don't Blame Me"

Yeah, we don't usually expect the pilot to spread the wealth, just the guy in the armani suit and tie....or their associates.

I go armed to work with $5's and $1's. I can easily expense my tips. Courtesy Vans get 5 unless they tell us to wait or dont put bags in or out then it's 3. Line folks-if they ask to help us like coffee, papers, ice-then its 5. Interior lav if they unhook and carry out its 10,if I have to go back and mess with it then nothing-your company is charging me for that svc anyway a buck a foot to carry a metal box aint bad! exterior lav is 5. Vac jobs 5. I even paid a guy $100 to clean up baby puke all over the place. It was great for him, me as I didn't have to smell or touch it and it was cheaper than having a cleaning svc do the job and he did a better job than most detailers do anyway. International handlers are around $40. As for fuelers, not often unless I can tip my way to the front of the line if I am in a hurry then I throw 10 or 20 depending on the place and the time frame?

If you work at an FBO--read this!!!!!!
I can't stand it when I show up somewhere, 4 line guys standing near the plane and they watch me unload all the bags and put them in the car and the boss will slip then a 10 or 20. I did the work???
Or when I have to hunt you down for things that I need...I am happy to pay you for your time after all its not my money I am giving you!!!
