Well I work for a large mgmt. company who if you can believe it does NOT have a hard day policy. Thats right they do NOTHING to put some control on the owner/client from working us into the ground. Oh yeah, while we don't do charter per se, we operate all flights under 135. Nothing in the regs about when you get those 13days/qtr, just that you get 'em. Now I'm not going to say we don't get time off but we have zero control over it. Two vacations requested three months in advance have been denied this year, and as of 1 Sep I will have worked (been away from home) 36 out of the last 40 days. Absolute BS, but until a better paying gig comes along I'm stuck.

Since I own my own business, I get time off when I fly....

we have a 3 aircraft flight dept with 9 pilots. we do 2 weeks on call, then 1 week on 24 hour call, i.e., you're off but if we need you, you need to be here within 24 hours (kind of rare to get a call). then we do get one hard week off every......well, i really don't know how it works. one guy got 2 hard weeks this month and i don't have one until october. who knows.

10 "mostly hard" days each month (there's a difference between mostly hard and completely hard), plus about 4 weeks vacation if you do it right. I average about 10 days per month flying.

Oh, is that kind of like the difference between Enzyte and Viagra?

Um, I mean, not that I've either tried OR needed either... ;) TC

It was actually my lame attempt at a "Pricess Bride" reference (Billy Crystal). Yes, I feel confident enough in myself to proclaim that I like The Princess Bride.

Yip, 5 hard days a year.

I have to be available during the week, week-ends and holidays. I many not fly every holiday or weekend but I can't plan ANY family time for the wife and boys, CF says it is not his problem.

Are you allowed to at least pick the 5 days off that you have? What kind of person do you work for? That seems a bit rediculous.
