Hello all-

I recently stopped a good friend of mine from dropping $70k+ on one of those "nothing to airline job" programs. Me and two other friends of mine convinced him to get his PPL first (after much debate, then getting him drunk and making him pinky swear).

Our attempts to teach him the value of having built up time went off coarse. He promptly brought up the subjest of building time in an LSA. That is, a light sport aircraft. Darned kids are too smart for thier own good.

Anyway, the question is "how would emplyoers look at LSA time from a person who started with a PPL?" He seems bent on the idea, should we curb his enthusiasm once again?

I have 500 hours of ultralight time, but dont count it towards my total time because it isnt an N numbered aircraft. LSA such as the Piper Cub or others could still be counted as legit total time as they are now. I think it would depend on what plane he was flying. A quicksilver or trike probably wouldnt look too good. I was denied an interview with American Eagle because I had a few hours in an AirCam that counted towards my total twin time-even though it is an AIRPLANE. I flew the Seminole somemore and got the ratio up.

Those two models are pretty sweet, I looked into them for my grandfather to buy in order to get around the medical issue. When it came down to it, the cost was outrageous. He bought an Aircoupe instead and only flies when I am in the right seat.

The AirCam is a blast, it is the most exciting airplane I have ever flown. Sirius satellite radio rockin to "Life in the fast Lane" while flying down a river is about as good as it gets on an August evening, as long as you dont hit a wire.

any update on the plane your friend went with? I am very interested in these new LSA's myself, but they all seem to be in the 75-100K price range.. .that's sorta rough!!!

None. He has gone one way or the other with it yet. I am watching him closely. He should begin "normal" PPL training soon. I'm sure that will help get things into perspective for him.
