Throw me some opinions

I'd like to hear some pros/cons for JetBlue and Southwest from their respective pilots. No bashing the competition please, just keep it to your company. Thanks.

It would be hard to argue with SWA's track record. In my amateur opinion, they're about the strongest company out there.

I just got hired by JB and am very excited to get started. I have heard only great things from the pilots and other crewmembers that work there.

I would put these issues at the top of my priotity list.

1. Company's current and projected strength
2. Base location
3. SWA has SWAPA; JB has no union. Which are you more comfortable with?
4. Payscales of course
5. Upgrade time (obviously tying in closely with payscales)
6. Not really a big deal to me but maybe to others - Will your pride allow you to help clean the cabin after a flight.

SWA is more of a known quantity at this point. JB is still relatively a new kid on the block, especially with the E-190 project.

I think you'll be happy with either choice. A lucky person would be the one who gets to choose which airline he/she wants to work for. Good luck.

i would go to SWA....it has a great track record of success.

i was recently hired by JBLU, and i knew it would be a difficult decision to make whether to go or stay at the legacy where i am currently employed. i like the bases a JBLU, i would not have to commute unless i upgraded, great employees and good worker/ mgt relationship.

i decided to stay where i'm at. with JBLU loosing money, they are now in the same boat as most airlines, so i did not want to get stuck on the bottom of the list if they curtailed their growth plans.

at my current airline, half the list will retire in 10 yrs, at JBLU, i would gain relative seniority only if they continue hiring, since there are few retirements.

like i said it was a difficult decision, but for the time being my company is growing nicely, but not at the same pace as JBLU.

Been with B6 for a bit now. I can honestly say I'm loving the company. Its not without its problems, but it feels like problems are constantly being addressed. I find the culture to be incredibly open and fun.

JetBlue is still a calculated risk, but I think the risk gets smaller day by day.

There were 2 things that brought me here. The biggest for me was that JetBlue is run by people managers, not bean counters. Once the bean counters start running an airline, all is lost. Our management are humans trying to do the best they can, and most certainly are not afraid to admit mistakes. But they learn from those mistakes, change course and press on.

The second thing that brought me here was the growth. If the gamble pays off, my career is going to be great. If the gamble doesn't pay off... well I'm young enough to absorb it. Fact of the matter is, I wouldn't be here if I thought this place was going to fail.
