can someone verify this?
i was hearing once a while back that the starship had a limited CG range that made it a bit tricky to load correctly, the buyers didnt like it cause they couldnt take what they wanted all the time. can you imagine being told "sorry sir but your golf clubs wont fit where they need to go. the CG would be outside the envelope".....followed by the owner saying "get me that 'insert any jet name here' it dosen't have that problem"

anyway that s how i understood it, anyone in the real know?

Starship = Composite construction, expensive parts
Avanti = Good ol "spamcan" fuselage, off the shelf parts

I heard Starship components were absurdly expensive.

And the avanti ain't that bad looking....it's just...different!
I've seen the mockup too, it's HUGE inside!

We've still got several here at ICT, cool looking airplane. I'll bet half the fleet has been sitting on the ramp here for close to a year. Too bad I never got to fly one.

The Starship was a commercial failure because it didn't meet the expected performance numbers that Beech promised. It was one of the first composite aircraft to be certified, so Beech had to overbuild it, since they weren't that familiar with composite construction.

It wound up being much heavier than expected, with the associated slower cruise speed and higher fuel burn. Few buyers wanted to pay the extra cash just to have a plane that looked cool. I haven't heard of any CG issues with the plane- usually canard aircraft have fairly wide CG envelopes.

As for the parts prices, aren't all Beech parts expensive?

"Swass" is an old school Sir Mix A Lot song and adjective. My buddies nick named me that long, long ago. The best I can remember it meant super cool or something. Just some Mix a Lot lingo. Has nothing to do with the airline, as so many user names in here do.

Very sad to see planes put out to pasture...but...

The Piaggio Avanti hideous?

I think the Piaggio is one of the coolest looking airplanes going. I used to see one regularly on the ramp when I was doing my training. It looks fast just sitting there. To me it's proof that the Starship had potential, but was just poorly executed.

Faster than the older Citations, but with the efficiency of a turboprop and **CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED** sexy to boot. What's not to love?

The Piaggio Avanti is all the things the Starship shoulda been but never was. And, if I'm not mistaken, it came first! Maybe Raytheon should have done their homework a little better.:o

the main demise of the starship is that a Kingair 350 costs less, burns less fuel, and will carry more farther.
