A friend of mine (yes a friend, I have 20/15 vision) is interested in learning more about this system. His AME said eye exercises might help his vision. Is this quackery or does it really work?

I used something like that to get 20/30 for the Navy initial flight physical. It consists of eye exercises. I think, mainly for me, is that it made me relax, and therefore the muscles in my eyes were not tense, and I passed.

In my experience, eye exercises really do work.
Did some myself about 15 years ago, did improve some.
Now I'm getting old again..:)

English- I hear the ad for that all the time on KFI. Sounds interesting.

I just took my 1st class medical exam. The doctor turned on the eye-test thingy and then got called out of the room before we could do the test. I stuck my head in the machine and noticed at the very bottom- beneath all the "notched circles"- there was something written in little, itty-bitty, impossible to read letters. I spent about 5 minutes trying to figure out what it said and was finally able to manipulate the lenses so I could read it (I have 20/20, uncorrected). It said something like "Good eyesight is important for safety". The doctor came back in and had me do the usual test: "read line 3, line 2", etc. At the end he said, "Now read the smallest line you can see clearly". (Cue the theme to The 6Million Dollar Man) I reeled off the "Good eyesight..." line. His response: "That's pretty good, now let's check your ears".

There's new technology being tested on humans that has an enzyme drop (to break down the surface of the eye) followed by a re-shaping contact lense that is left in for one week then removed. The result -- permanent re-shaping of the eyes without surgery or any recovery time. Look for it in about 5-7 years according to my Dr.He says it won't put the LASIK guys out of business beacause there will still be instances where LASIK is still the only way to correct certain people. I can't imagine it would be good for business though. If I had a choice between the two guess which one I'd pick.
