Saw it tonight as well. Thought the movie helped visualize the whipping/beatings by the Romans to where Jesus was unrecognizable.
The movie showed the scene where Jesus healed the high priest's servant's ear after Peter had whacked it with a sword. I wonder what everyone (especially the servant) thought after Jesus healed him?
TWA Dude, coming from this Gentile, it is wrong to lay the blame on the Jewish people.

You know, I for one am glad that this movie is getting attention. When was the last time that you saw a story about Christ on a major network, especially one that has garnered the attention that this movie has. Maybe it will put God on the front page(as should be) vs. the political and lib crap that we normally see.

I bet that the secularists are wetting their pants, at least I hope so. This could be the start of something positive in our country.

That happened at my movie theatre, I knew her. Jokes are not funny to those involved. Have some class.

I did cry a bit during the film. It was 5 minutes after leaving the theatre that I broke out in streaming tears on the way out to the car. Too say that the film is "powerful" is an understatement!!

I am glad to have God being discussed in the public forum.

What's your deal Freddie? The lady had a heart attack, why are you being such an asshole? Do you like to get under everyone's skin? Is that it? Grow up, you'll have to someday. You're what's wrong with America. Take a good look at yourself in the mirror, is that the way your parents brought you up to be? Would they be proud of your lack of respect for other people? Enough said.

I did the same thing at the end of Star Trek VI: the Undiscovered Country, when the Enterprise cruised off into the sunset for the last time.

(I'm serious!)

I will never understand the Trekkie

Trekism--I don't get it.

I caught the matinee.

My thoughts (as a secularist):

--I didn't wet my pants. I happen to appreciate the story of Jesus and am always interested in different versions. I read The Last Temptation of Christ and saw the movie too.

--I thought some of the music was a direct rip off of Peter Gabrial's score on the Last Temptation. Drum rhythm and synthesizers...

--I thought the beating of Jesus in the courtyard was a bit over the top. I try not to take things too literal but judging from the amount of blood loss he would've been in shock and most probably unconscious. At any rate, I highly doubt he could've carried the cross as far as depicted.

--I thought Ebert did a good job of summarizing why the film isn't anti-semitic. Everyone acts as individuals. There are 'good' Romans and 'bad' Romans and 'good' Jews and 'bad' Jews.

--But did anyone else catch the subtle symbology of the Devil walking amongst the Jews while Jesus was carrying the cross?

--And did Jesus speak Latin? Because he sure did to the Roman governor.

--I think driving the nails through the palms is technically inaccurate. At least that's what was taught when I was a Catholic. A more accurate crucifixtion has the nails driven through the bones of the wrists--the flesh of the hand would never support the weight of the body.

It was a great film. But I don't think it was the most violent movie I've ever seen. Any Quentin Tarrantino film is more violent just by virtue of the body count alone.

I suppose that would explain why you got so bent out of shape about Fred Reed's commentary on trekkies

I haven't seen the movie. Could you elaborate?

Chances are that any Jews who had a need to deal or associate with the Roman occupiers knew Latin. That made many Jews trilingual, including Hebrew which was used during prayer and study. For more historical information I recommend watching Monty Python's Life of Brian.
