Keep believing that.

And given that the U.S. "man" you refer to seems to produce 1/3rd of all the CO2 on the planet, perhaps those of us in the U.S. should do something about it, man.

Cheers,

SCR

Yeah! You tell him.

And Algore [sic] is probably producing at least 1/8 of the total CO2 emissions just on the energy it takes to keep up that compound he so humbly calls home. Him and all the cows. Did you know that cow flatulence contributes quite significantly to greenhouse gasses? I guess that's different though.

Ever wonder what caused the last ice age? I mean, it obviously wasn't a man-made event, since we didn't exist yet. All that historically proven climate change over time, and no people to be found in the equation.

Hmmmm.... perhaps this global warmimg thing isn't all what it's cracked up to be. Doh!

Yes, Al Gore and Neil Young are definitely the sages I would turn to for a definitive answer on this subject. Perhaps you should consult Barbra Streisand and Jane Fonda for some advice on the war in Iraq.

...and your going to listen to airline pilots opinions on global warming?
It's pretty much unanimous among people much more qualified than any of us that global warming is a problem.

oh come on

I don't usually respond to this type of thread, considering this is an aviation forum, but I can't resist...

...and your going to listen to airline pilots opinions on global warming?
It's pretty much unanimous among people much more qualified than any of us that global warming is a problem.

Pretty much unanimous? And who would this unified and highly educated group be comprised of, exactly? Algore? Bono? Sean Penn???

Global warming will be a problem for everyone, eventually, I am sure. It would also be a problem if a meteor suddenly crashed into the earth. Both aforementioned occurences are probably about as likely to be affected significantly one way or another by our little adventures, IMHO. The jury is out, however, as to the cause of climate change (past, present or future), and certainly this "global warming" trend (scare language for the term "climate change") is nothing that hasn't happened before, and likely will continue to happen over and over again. Who ever said that the climate was a static thing?

I have yet to hear a scientific PROOF (read: NOT theory), backed up by facts and data, that states: a) that global warming is both the cause of humans and that b) it can definitely be fixed by human intervention.

As to your question about asking the uneducated masses known as pilots - start a freaking tree-hugger forum if you don't like hearing from us! This board is not "save the rainforest and elect Algore GOD" - it's a freaking aviaton board!

Let me explain this. We burn Fossil Fuels into CO2 and H2O. CO2 falls to earth and is absorbed by plants, which is then turned into sugar for the plant. The plant dies and turns into crude oil again someday. So think of JetA as plant food.

Global Warming (from manmade causes) is a fraud!!!! It's a communist/socialist trick to hinder the US economy. Al Gore either knows this or he's really stupid!!!! Maybe he thinks he's GOD? Al Gore is an enemy of the US and should be thrown into Guantanamo.

The earth is not a living organism, it has living organism on it, but rocks don't contain DNA.

The earth has heated and cooled since the beginning--way before the industrial evolution. The sun is not a glowing ball in the heavens that outputs the same energy forever.

Mars Melt Hints at Solar, Not Human, Cause for Warming, Scientist Says

http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2007/02/070228-mars-warming.html

Simultaneous warming on Earth and Mars suggests that our planet's recent climate changes have a natural—and not a human-induced—cause, according to one scientist's controversial theory. Earth is currently experiencing rapid warming, which the vast majority of climate scientists says is due to humans pumping huge amounts of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. Mars, too, appears to be enjoying more mild and balmy temperatures.
In 2005 data from NASA's Mars Global Surveyor and Odyssey missions revealed that the carbon dioxide "ice caps" near Mars's south pole had been diminishing for three summers in a row.
Habibullo Abdussamatov, head of space research at St. Petersburg's Pulkovo Astronomical Observatory in Russia, says the Mars data is evidence that the current global warming on Earth is being caused by changes in the sun.

a friend of mine who is a geology professor read about NASA's new study, which was just released, showing the temperature on mars has been rising .6 or .7 degrees per year. I think we should stop sending our probes to mars considering we are causing global warming there too.

What troubles me about the Global Warming...er, excuse me, "Man Made Climate Change" (changed from global warming when proof about natural cycles of warming and cooling were presented) issue is when debate or discussion is not only stifled, but prevented.

No fair hearing is given to those with conflicting research on climate change by the media or GW/CC proponents. That scares me.

Also frightening is the fact that the topic has been declared closed by that bastion of truth and free speech--The United Nations. I'm sure we can rely on them for an unbiased study of this topic.

The data that the GW/CC crowd is relying on is derived from "Seth" wandering out to his outhouse in 1827 (and subsequent years) with a candle taking a temperature reading from the highest tech thermometer at the time while taking a dump. Adequate at the time but inadequate to cause me to leap off the GW/CC cliff.

Before I vote to wreck the economy of this country and seriously damage my personal financial status (we middle class folks will be devastated by fines levied against our un-green houses and lifestyles while the rich will just buy carbon offsets--after making millions in the Carbon Offset commodity exchange, and continue to fly their G's and drive their Bently's unburdened by a guilty conscience) I'm going to need to see some pretty convincing data from a source other than that bent on the subjugation of this country (the U.N.).

Additionally, NOTHING we do to reduce pollution in this country and Western Europe can offset the destructive industrialization of India and China. They were virtually untouched by the draconian "suggestions" of the Kyoto Treaty. The Guangzhou area in China will soon be virtually uninhabitable by any organism due to polluted water and air.

Dear China, India and Africa: You first. TC

If Al Gore were really serious about getting his message out, he would not have charged $7 to see his movie. He is trying to scare your money out of your wallet.

P.S. What is so bad about a greenhouse??? Stuff grows in there!

He needs your money so he can continue to hunt for ManBearPig!

I'll know the UN is serious about combating pollution when all the proposals they make apply to China, and not just the US.

That place is Filthy.

There is far more CO2 given off naturally than any humans' produce, combined. But people like Gore don't really want to talk about that. Humans make up less than 5 percent of ALL carbon dioxide output. The majority of it comes from things like volcanos. What does Mr. Gore purposed to do about this huge source. It's BS.

Absolute garbage, every word.

Man emits over 25 BILLION tons of CO2 every year. Volcanoes emit about 1/2 of 1% of that (130 million tons) according to the usgs.

I think we need Jetflyer to visit this thread and preach about PEAK OIL........

.

Ladies and Gentlemen I hope you're seated for today's sermon.

Peak Oil was last year in August at 85.1 million barrels per day.

The U.S. uses 1/4 of the world's oil.

Only 2/3 of the oil the U.S. uses is for transportation.

Saudi Arabia passed peak in December 2005. Their production is down from 9.5mbd to 8.3 and keeps declining linearly month after month.

Oil production for Planet Earth is declining and global crude, gasoline, heating oil, etc. inventories are being drawn down by over 1 million barrels a day currently.

The Cheap Petroleum Party will soon be over.

Global warming won't matter as long as the remaining coal is used through carbon sequestration tecnologies.

Go take that vacation. Go drive across the country. Enjoy the low gasoline prices now.

Doug, I know you were kidding but I didn't want to disappoint :)

Cya,
Jet

The whole damn Kyoto treaty. From Wikipedia:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kyoto_treaty

The treaty was negotiated in Kyoto, Japan in December 1997, opened for signature on March 16, 1998, and closed on March 15, 1999. The agreement came into force on February 16, 2005 following ratification by Russia on November 18, 2004. As of December 2006, a total of 169 countries and other governmental entities have ratified the agreement (representing over 61.6% of emissions from Annex I countries).[7][8] Notable exceptions include the United States and Australia. Other countries, like India and China, which have ratified the protocol, are not required to reduce carbon emissions under the present agreement despite their relatively large populations.

People's Republic of China

The People's Republic of China insists that the gas emissions level of any given country is a multiplication of its per capita emission and its population. China endorses this because of the advantage it would get within the new restrictions. Because China has emplaced population control measures while maintaining low emissions per capita, it claims it should therefore in both the above aspects be considered a contributor to the world environment. China considers the criticism of its energy policy unjust.[31] China is currently the second largest emitter of greenhouse gases, and as of first-half 2007, is expected to become the largest by second-half 2007.[3] In 2004 the total greenhouse gas emissions from China were about 54% of the USA emissions [4]. China is now building on average a coal-fired power plant every week and plans to continue doing so for years [5][6]. Some predictions (in 2006) are that China will emit more greenhouse gas than the USA in 2 or 3 years [7] [8].

Man made global warming is a scam to remove your money from your wallet and to increase control over you while destroying the US economy.

I hear they are having a bulk rate special over at HD for pool sand. You can have on hand a fresh supply for burying that coconut of yours.

How much did Dick (5 x deferments) Cheney pay you to say that?

What does Cheney have to do with Global Warming?

Open your mind and quit being a hand puppet.
