Got my ppl out at NW regional by the racetrack and then to Arlington for the rest. Should of had all three of my CFI in November, but had to take a sabbatical to deal with some family issues.

Trying to get back into things and it should not be long now.

Good Luck and let me know how things are going.

Congratulations, Alchemy!

His practical sounded very typical, how a CFI practical should be conducted. Not too much ballbusting, and a few things not ordinarily thought of that would be fair questions, e.g. the ASC discussion.

The one thing that seemed off the charts was the ILS. Nothing is ever "for fun" with the FAA. What would have happened had he not shot it well? Would have that been a bust? If so, it would have been bogus because Alchemy wasn't taking an instrument practical that day.

Anyway, congratulations again! Now, you, too, are just another unemployed flight instructor. ;)

Aviation resume

a buddy of mine just got his CFI ticket and wants to put together an "aviation" resume to send out to local flight schools. He's never held a flying job, just a corporate desk gig.

He should design it the same as any other aviation resume, except that the work experience section would set forth whatever employment he has had.. Let me mention at the outset that everyone raves about our member, Resume Writer's, resumes.

Something like the following:

Name, large type and bold, centered at the top.

Contact information immediately underneath.

Then Objective. You always want to state an objective on a resume. His, of course, would be Flight Instructor Employment.

Then Certificates and Ratings.

Flight Time. Set up headings for each category in a columnar format, something like:

Total Time: 250
Pilot In Command: 180
Multiengine: 50
Instrument: 40
Night: 20

Et cetera. Some people center the total time figure. In your friend's case, why draw attention that he is low time.

Employment. He can list each employer by year began and year left, and describe his work briefly.

Education. He should just list his college, degree, and any honors, etc.

Technical Training. List where he trained. If it is a 141 school, mention that.

References. Do not list the references by name. Just state that references are available by request.

Availability. Preferably, "Immediate."

Hope that helps. Good luck to your friend.

Although I am not much of a fan of that site anymore, but if you go to jetcareers.com, on the left side of the main page somewhere there is a link with a scan or picture of the owner's resumee. It is the exact same format as bobby mentioned above.

The inspector told me ahead of time that the ILS would not count, and if I had shot it poorly it would not have mattered. He said we were doing it to get back to love field faster, exactly how the instrument approach would help us do that I'm not quite sure.

Now that you mention it, the ILS didn't go too well.....the approach controller told us to expect ILS 13R, but after we had set up and and had been vectored around, the final approach controler cleared us for for ILS 13L less than 1 mile from the FAF. The Inspector became pretty irate, got on the comms and had some choice words for the controllers......in limbo between the paralell runways at a Class B field is not a good place to be......at that point I was confused as all hell as to wether I should continue to 13R or try to flip to the approach plate to 13L and reconfigure the radios at lightning speed......ended up just doing a pseudo-ILS/visual to 13R.
