It only takes ONE jumpseater to blow it for the rest of us. I would like to see ALL carriers subscribe to CASS. I simply don't understand why they would choose otherwise. Especially when it's for the good of all aviation.

I am told it is a cost issue. Some places don't want or need the added hassle. The pilots at those carriers will just be SOL I guess.
 
Yeah you guys started it sometime recently, i rode on the 767 with an offline pilot, Air Tran I think it was.

Hi!

I recently talked to 4 NWA captains. They all said the same thing:

If you're in CASS, you can ride in the NWA jumpseat, ONLY if you're also on the NWA JS list.

If you're NOT on the JS list, you won't ride on an NWA plane, regardless of you're CASS situation.

They recc. that your airline get in CASS, because it made it easier for the gate agents, and you can get in the cockpit if the plane is full-ONLY if you're on the NWA list!

I work for a non CASS airline. If our pilots starting getting denied in the back then this is gonna be a nasty J/S war. If one of our pilots gets denied riding in the cabin then you can bet the company they were not allowed to ride on will not get on my jumpseat. Flight deck or cabin seat!

I have heard it's a money issue. So I wouldn't count on it anytime soon unless we pay extra in union dues to implement it.

I agree. I would be willing to bet that most of our pilot group would pay an extra 100 bucks or so a year to be in cass. I know I would.
 
Non-cass

I am with a Pt 135 carrier, and this past weekend I ran into a problem for the first time JS in the past 7 months. My carrier has no 2 letter code, we have a 3 letter code. The DL gate agent wanted only a 2 letter code and said that the new computer system would deny me boarding if there was no 2 letter code. I have JS'ed on this system for 2 months now. She got the supervisor, and I was told the same thing. They called the gate agent (CHQ) who said it was fine to send me to the gate (What an angel)!
I know I might be off track here, slightly, since I am not with a 121 carrier, but in relation to the original thread, there is some truth to the CASS-Non Cass issue.
