Do any of you have any ideas on where to look for cargo jobs in Texas. I need to find something that will allow me to live in the central Texas area. I am commited to my current job until mid, late summer, so I am trying to get an early start on where to focus my job hunting. If anyone has any ideas, let me know.

Thanks

Wow, overqualified? That's a first for me. I have plenty of single engine and turbine time but I need to pump up my multi. I am currently at about 200 multi. I feel like I need to start out somewhere that I can accumulate some quality multi experience. Then, hopefully my TT and turbine experience will come into play. Hey, maybe SW will call me before then?

Thanks for the information.

oh, im not saying dont apply! but i know that GTA, MRA and the like tend to stick more to the ~1500 hour guys. they have the impression that lower time will stick around longer.

falcondriver,

Not sure which city yet. The wife and I both grew up around the Temple, College Station area and she really wants to get back a little closer to home if you know what I mean. Haven't ruled any area out at all. Just trying to get a line on where there may be some opportunity.

Cherry Air, Ameristar, Martinaire for Dallas. I know a few operate out of San Antonio, mabe Berry Aviation I think in San Marcos. Others probably know better what is available down south.
Good Luck

From what I have heard it is difficult to get Texas with either Cherry, Ameristar, or Berry. You generally have to move somewhere else like Lansing, or El Paso (I know it is technically in Texas, but it might as well be China if you live on the I 35 corridor) until you have enough senority to hold TX.
On a side note what will happen with Cherry and Ameristars' Lears and Falcons with RVSM? The last Cherry guy I talked to (about 6 months ago) said the company has not done anything and as far as he knows will not do anything. So will they just fly them at 290? Will that be profitable? I know this was discussed a while back on this forum. I just havent heard anything recently and wanted some fresh insight.

They will either be restricted below 300 or have to climb straight through to 410 or above. They will just have to spend more on gas anyway. Sorry, kinda off the subject of who to look for in texas.

Again, try the Dallas area, most often the best bet for jobs, or Houston maybe. You could always go to A&M (BOOOOO!!!! they $uck DIC'K) they like to spend lots of money flying their regents around TX.

I don't think non-RVSM planes will be allowed to climb through the zone. They will have to stay low and burn a bunch o' gas.

No, they will be allowed to climb through.

0 to 100 in 20 seconds.

Berry is looking for pilots on the East Coast at the moment. I know they are getting desperate for a Captain in FRG, which doesn't help you out geographically, but it is good multi time.

Bugchaser,

Who are you working for now? I am from central Texas also. If you want out of Ag get ready to starve and never see home. My advice is if you have a good seat keep it. I wish I would have.

RVSM

I have been told that Ameristar like Kalitta is using Avcon to comply with RVSM and TAWS requirements. Haven't heard about Cherry. And the is is FL280 or below for non-RVSM aircraft, not below 300. ANd finally, operators will be allowed to climb above 410, WORKLOAD permitting. But on the east and west coasts, plan on the workload to never be permitting. Plus it means climb straight through, no stops. A lot of the older 20s with tired engines can't do that.

Less than a week and counting till RVSM...FL420 is impossible with a cargo falcon. Even so thats the cieling of the plane anyway.

Try MRA

Try MartinAire, they are hiring, a C208 operator, great chief pilot, $22,500 per yr to start, not great but with per diem better than regional, good bases in TX and good schedule, no pressure to fly in ice and lines. In enjoyed my time there. If you can get SAT, it's the best base out there. Good luck.

Every one talks about fuel burn in a Falcon @ 280 as if will be guzzling fuel like a freshman pleab suckin on a funnel. Fact is the fuel burn is the same. You will have to give up some speed so distance will shorten for the same flight time, but it aint no big deal. Most flights don't push your fuel anyway.

Berry Aviation

Does anyone have any addresses or ideas on Berry Aviation? Are they hiring and what address would I send a resume to. Thanks. Remember, the dirty side is down for a reason.

Berry Aviation

I work at Berry. I don't know think they're looking for anyone else right now, but that could change soon if they put another Citation on the certificate or get some more Do-328's.

You sure do have a sh!tload of time to be thinking about flying Metros, don't you think? But if you're just looking for a place to work in Texas, someone's looking for a Be-90 pilot in Waco and a Lr-35 FO in Austin... and then there's Colgan out of IAH soon.

Nice, teasipper. What are you, like 15?

Baron aviation runs a C-208 out of BWD.There is also Texstar.. I used to work for them. Only stay as long as you have to, they have had 3 fatalities.

It used to be a 6 month commitment.
