Unfortunately for our profession, the adverse effect may already be starting.

The EU (as well as other countries) have made official statements urging a stop to all "non-essential" travel to the US and Mexico (some countries add Canada).

The World Health Organization is holding an emergency meeting/press conference right now, I believe, that was originally slated for tomorrow. Most signs point to increasing the health "threat" level to 4 or possibly 5. Not good for air travel if it happens.

I am starting to smell force-manure...

...and isn't it just like this industry to trip and fall just after getting up on it's feet again? Man, if it wasn't for SARS, the oil prices, the economy and now the Swine Flu-- and of course the Jetblues (had to throw that in cause you know someone is going to bring it up) the airline industry might actually be thriving!!!

I don't think thriving American industries are part, or have been part, of the "plan" in this country for a long time. We are in the midst of a long-term secular decline of anything industrial, or anything having to do with infrastructure, or middle to upper-middle class prosperity. There will bo no prosperity for the middle/upper middle class until the industrial base in this country is restored.

Since this may have had it's origin in Mexico, does anyone think this will help step up the border patrol operations to prevent illegals from coming into the US for treatment or further restrict their otherwise normal movments into our Country?

Hah! The new DHS head doesn't even think it's a crime to enter the US illegally. Thinks it's a civil matter. We don't have a prayer of stopping anyone at the border.

Ditto what Col Savage said, don't think for a moment this country can live on a society of health care professionals and peace corp volunteers. Until we start making stuff people want, we're toast as a country.

Our only hope of stoping the Mexicans/ect. from flooding over the border is,,, Well ever see the scene from Independance Day where Jeff Goldblum (David) gets drunk and starts trashing "area 51"? "Maybe if we trash this place bad enough the aliens won't want it...." (may not be word for word) Well that's about the only way we have of stopping the flood here. Do I support things like no undocumented welfare, schooling, medical treatment? Yes, will it ultimately matter? Probably not. Will the collapse of our economy matter? You bet.

Thanks, My Lord (Vader)...We've become a financial based economy, and have gone from making things to making deals and "packaging assets" for sale with no regard for the fundamentals or the people involved. It's all about shuffling money around, disguising ownership of assetts under shell corporations, and pounding the daylights out of labor to show 'em the money men are boss.

........... on a brighter note Southwest Airlines announced today a distribution agreement with Volaris so you can buy your Mexican destinations on Southwest.com.

Friggin' idiots. Talk about timing.

Gup
