I have been seeing more and more 737's with a purple top. Since when was purple a primary color for LUV?

Also just a word of warning, Fedex used to paint its whole planes purple, but that color oxidizes very quickly and looked so awful that we went to only having the tail painted purple.

Any thoughts on why this particular color was chosen? Seems like a strange choice considering the potential for the planes to look bad or require more recurrent painting.

It is in preparation for the upcoming merger. . .

Where do you think all of those 737's are going to come from?

Man, that's not purple, it's CanyonBlue. It just looks purple. :-)

I asked my SWA buddies what they thought about the purple airplanes, and one of them said, " you mean BARNEY?"

They could paint em hot titty pink and I'd be proud to fly em.

enigma

Echopapa is unfortunately right. The Barney's paint job is not holding up, according to the company. They are looking at some issues, but its not looking good. This is definitly a kink in the armour and hopefully we can find some creative way out of this one. It will either cost us lots to keep painting the planes more frequently or lots to change the scheme. We will see.

As for why Canyon Blue, lots of rumors out there. I don't like some of them. One has that the company gave in to the "alternate lifestyle" mafia onboard and this color is one of thier pride colors. ONCE AGAIN, RUMOR ONLY.

Either way, it will be an expensive lesson.

"`alternative lifestyle' mafia"

You just better pray the Godfather doesn't make you an offer you can't refuse.

It took me a while to adjust to the new paint scheme but I do like it. I have noticed a few planes that the Purple does look faded and dull.

I hope they keep it. I'd have to change my name if they got rid of it.

(By the way, it's never looked like purple to me!)

You'd have to change your name. What about mine?

Its never looked like purple to me either. Although sometimes it doesn't look blue either.

I definitely like the new better than the old....especially the interiors!

Me too. Now we just look like a giant beach ball!:)

Is it really just the color of the paint that affects how long it holdsup? I mean, I'm sure that paint technology is advanced enoughthat the-powers-that-be could come up with some formula that holds upunder all the conditions as airplane is faced with, regardless of thecolor?

I don't like the purple either. I am a fan of the old desert gold. That is the SWA I grew up with.

"Desert gold".....is that the same thing as baby-sh!t yellow?
