Even if the City Council approves SWA's terminal, the FAA has to approve it also. The FAA has said in Assurance Grants 23 and 39 that HAS is not required to accomodate SWA. Underutilized FIS is available at IAH where there are currently 12 gates available. SWA has served the airport in the past and it is abundantly clear SWA left, and does not want to go back, to avoid competeing with UAL and the other IAH carriers. Additionally, the FAA recognizes that limiting certain aircraft operation to a single airport in a multi airport system is customary. A court case precedent, which is from Denver and an airline called Centennial, produced a final agency decision and order from the FAA stating that these limits may be imposed.

0900 the meeting kicks off. We'll see how it goes. I don't think SWA has done enough to win this. Overstated what the positives are to the City and been less than clear about how much they would actually pay for. If SWA get's this it will be a HUGE handout.

Couple of sidenotes: GK wants this limited to 737 size aircraft only, and he only wants 5 gates for 25 flights. He's making NO accomodation for any other operator or any other size airplane. It will be interesting to see if he get's those two requests approved. If it all comes together for him, it will be the most exaggerated accomodation of one airline's needs I think has ever happened.

I agree that's a sticking point for the city. If they open the airport to SWA for int'l what about other carriers (not UAL) who want to use Hobby? As far as limiting the size of aircraft. I think that may have more to do with gate space issues. Don't count on the FAA to turn down an opportunity to create more gov't jobs.

One of the main reasons any legacy ends up with aweful mgt is that no quality leadership wants to manage against the ridiculous advantage SWA is usually given on issues like this.

You should re-examine this line of thinking. It's called 'projection' and 'displaced aggression'. The airline robber barons like Horton and Jeffey aren't your fault, and they certainly aren't SWA fault.

You owe me $450. :D

I don't think anyone knows. GK really did put in the effort. He sat through questioning for 4.5 hours with no break. Meanwhile, my CEO was sipping congac from the shrunken, hollowed out head of a furloughed pilot...

Who posted under flops name?

Now that was witty and funny. :)

 That was some funny typing right there, I don't care who you are. Good one Flop

That was good:))

Flop, I do wish you guys luck at UAL-CAL- just disagree on this issue-
The employees deserve a better integration than what you've gotten

KPRC (local Houston tv) reported GK was asked if he needed a break multiple times during 4.5 hours of questioning. He didn't break at all, which is impressive. Jeff relieves himself at least every 30 mins, and that'is just on my contract. He didn't show up btw, and neither did Bethune. So the joke is on the former CAL employees. I realize it's business, and business has to evolve I guess. I no longer think GK/SWA is doing this just because CAL left Houston. UAL has bigger problems.

And thanks Wave. We'll get something figured out eventually.

There is no decision yet, that I know of. However, from what I saw I think a lot of people changed their mind about the UAL position on the issue.
