Talked to someone today who knew someone who went to an SWA interview and was sent home for using an electronic logbook.

I've heard of people getting sent home from regional interviews forpresenting electronic logbooks that weren't signed or presenting thecomputer instead of a printout which is a good cause to be sent home.I've also heard of lots of people who impressed the interviewers withelectronic logbooks because they were done properly, printed out andsigned with all the correct information. They got the job in the end.

My question is how widely are electronic logbooks accepted at themajors? I stopped using the old fashoned pen and paper a few yearsagoand it has been accepted at several jobs.

Hmm... I just tried fixing the spacing in the last post, looks like the spaces between some of the words are getting stripped out from the text when I post.

Call the SWA people department and ask them directly. They will be more than happy to answer your question.

I heard that a recent applicant was told by a PD interviewer, "An electronic logbook? I have no problem with that". I think that electronic logbooks are becoming more popular since an applicant can organize different types of pilot time (PIC Turb, ME, etc) quickly. The logbooks are also very neat and organized from what I hear. I bet you would have no problem with them as long as the book presents the information they are looking for. Good luck!

If you guys don't mind me asking,

When you work for a 121 or 135 operation does the company keep track of your flight time or are you solely responsible for figuring out your time after each trip?

Thanks

Jimmy

I put my logbooks in my safe June 11, 2001 and haven't seen them since.

Jimmy- At FedEx, there is a link on the pilot website where we can access our flight times and trips. The company keeps track of all that stuff for us.

Could you be more specific? Surely it was not just because the person used an electronic logbook. I am guessing a lot of people go to the SWA interview with electronic logbook printouts right?

1. Was it because of the specific software?
2. Was the logbook the sole reference? (No kind of record from previous employers)
3. Was a copy printed?

What was the specific problem?

SWA Had no probelms with my electronic logbook. I keep mine inExcel and had all the pages printed out and signed for theinterview. The interviewer actually commented that he preferredthe clean printout of the electronic version. My Excel preadsheetlooks identical to a Jeppesen Logbook as far as column format.

This is third hand information that I got from somebody who was trying to convince me to keep a pen and paper old fashon logbook up to date. He was trying to tell me that they wanted to see the formal old fashon pen and paper style which I found hard to believe. He didn't give specific details. I suspect it was something related to presentation because I hear a lot of carriers have no problem as long as it's presented clearly, is neat and signed.

Electronic Only?

Did you have a pen and paper version to compliment your electronic version? Or was the electronic logbook all you presented?

I think it's reasonable for carriers to require applicants to present original logbooks from primary training containing endorsements and instructor signatures.

You should present logbooks that show signatures from ratings obtained. You can't just hand an interviewer a computer and say "here it is." Think about it, how many different logbook programs are there? You cant expect and interviewer to be an expert in your particular brand to get the information they want. An interviewer just wants to see the information and probably loves an electronic logbook print out as long as pages are signed, just like they would be on a handwritten logbook. I have interviewed twice and gotten two jobs doing the above, one with SWA.

I presented my computer printed logbook at SW and the interviewer loved it. He was impressed at the hard work I went into converting the old logbook to the new computer one. It took about a year.

I'm in the same boat. I've been using Logbok Pro for about 5 years now.

I sure hope this is not the case, or all hope is lost for me.

I am using Jeppesens electronic logbook. I used to log my time in the paper version, but stopped doing that a couple of years ago.
I am military and the only thing ever written into a log book of mine is when I got my ATP. (I do have a paper version for those few rides in the PA-23-250 :) )
Of course the Air Force have a lot of papers on me :)

That's what I have been using since it first came out. No worries, SW loved it.

Call SWA People Department

Guys, you really need to just pick up the phone and ask the SWA folks. They won't bite. Besides, this is your future career you're talking about...do you really want to trust second hand and potentially inaccurate advice here, or would you rather get a real answer from SWA? Your choice.

Just wanted to drop you a line about how great your software is. I recently changed over my 3 logbooks into your electronic version for an interview with Southwest Airlines. There was nothing really wrong with my old logbooks, but some hours and entries had been crossed out and re-added. I really wanted my logbook to shine for my interview. I printed out the 10 years of flying in a page format with totals on each page. Used you report combiner and other tools. The person checking my logbook for Southwest was extremely impressed, and remarked that he had never seen a better presented logbook. Needless to say I got the job with Southwest.
