This thread is moving way to slow. The fact that it hasn't turned into Delta vs SWA or how AirTran pilots suck is really disappointing. FWIW this is only the beginning. Southwest Airlines is going to send an aluminum cloud of airplanes to the Caribbean, Central and South America. You won't be able to Shake a stick and not hit SWA metal.

I was being tongue in cheek of course. There is another link in that Forbes article Fred that refers to 6% increase in capacity. I'm curious if that can be achieved soley through upgauging the aircraft? If we are talking replacing 717s with -800s, it's probably close.

* I guess the article says about 1% growth not from upgauging or increased stage length.

Guys in case you missed the memo, the company purchased a right priced competitor that had attractive assets in order to make SWA more profitable. It was a highly profitable corporate move that did not work out as well for either pilot group. Hopefully in the end it will eventually lead to enhancements that will be profitable for all stake holders.
