I've been doing some reading on Aviation Interviews.com, and have a question about SouthWest recommendations.

I know, of course, there is the "regular" form of recommendation, where you bring a printed letter of recommendation from a SouthWest pilot you know.

But, Aviation Interviews.com has lead me to belive there is an "online" form of recommendation, like FedEx has. Can anyone confirm this before I ask a friend at SouthWest if he will do an online recommendation for me?

Thanks

Confirmed. Usually completed after you've been interviewed.

Ok, thanks. So wait until after the interview before asking a friend to complete the online rec?

Online recs at SWA can only be completed between the time you are given a date for the interview and when the decision board meets for your interview.

Which means you have a window of about 4-8 weeks.

SouthWest or is it Southwest. Maybe its Southwestern Airways.

Sorry to bring up an old thread but I had a question about the SWA online recommendation. Is it simply a matter of having a SWA pilot checking off either "recommend" or "not recommend"? Also, can SWA flight attendants do an online recommendation for a pilot applicant? Thanks in advance to anyone who knows how this works!!

No, it is not simply recommend or not recommend. It is a little bit more involved than that but easier than writing a real letter of recommendation. I usually do both (actual LOR to chief pilot and online form) for guys I'm recommending.

And I'm not sure about the flight attendant thing but I doubt it. We get to the online form on the pilot portion of flight operations. I'm sure the flight attendants have something similar but not sure how it would be handled if a flight attendant recommended a pilot on the flight attendant portion of web site. Plus, I'm pretty sure the pilot form asks questions about your piloting skill and it seems that an FA would be ill prepared to judge that. Although it seems to make sense that since we hire for attitude and not to get Chuck Yeagers necessarily, seems to me that an FA recommendation might be good. It would definitely stand out and that might not be a good thing, but hey, maybe it would.
