I need your help. What I'd like to get from current poolies are the questions you'd like answers to. Think of it as a FAQ section of a forum where folks could go to for the straight skinny instead of rumor. Of course trade secrets aren't going to be revealed (I don't have any of them anyway!!! :D )but some of the more obvious questions that someone would like to know once they are notified they are hired would be useful. Think of it as the Top 10 questions asked of the gals in the PD by poolies. For example:

1. How are new hire class dates assigned?
2. What is the relationship between my type date & interview date in terms of being called for a class? (this applies to those who may have applied prior to 1 Nov when being typed became a requirement)
3. How will I be notified of my start date?
4. What causes the PD to send out a request for updates from the poolies?
5. How will I be notified of the drug test requirement and does this give me any indication of when I would enter a class?
6. What is my approximate pay for the first 6 months/1 year?
7. When are my family provided flight benefits/medical coverage after being called with a class date?
8. What happens if my class date is cancelled?
9. I'm in the military. What happens if I get extended/recalled?

These are just some of the ones I've come up with. For most of you there is a good awareness of what the PD will answer & what they simply don't know. Feel free to post them on here or PM me with your questions.

For those who awaiting an interview, there are obviously a lot of questions you have also. Feel free to continue to post these on this forum & you'll get the straight skinny from guys who have been through the process & from others. The current situation with SWA is a bit of anomally since SWA has rarely had a pool the size of the current one. My guess is interviews for the near future are not likely & until things firm up on the bottom line to allow the current pool to be drained significantly.

My recommendation to those who are looking for work is to continue to apply to any/all airlines/operators that are hiring. Putting all your eggs in one basket is not wise in this market (no duh!) & while SWA would love to hire as many folks as possible the reality is SWA will interview all those who meet the minimum qualifications but chances on the first time through of getting hired is difficult (less than an average major league baseball utility hitter's batting average). I say this not to scare folks but to give you a realistic sense of what the hire rates at SWA have been in the past. No I don't have access to secret data or anything else other than watching & listening for the last 5 years & to those who have come before me when they went through their interview process.

Thanks in advance to those who PM me with their top 10 questions. Good luck to all,

Hey Chase,

Always glad to read your posts!

Here's a question I've been looming with lately:

Does the PD conduct additional background updates if we get class assignments 3 to 4 months after our last updates? If so, would this be done prior to going to class or while we're in class?

Thanks for all your help in keeping us informed...any news is welcome!

Keep the good info coming

Chase-

Keep up the good work. It is tough sometimes being on this roller coaster.

I have been in the pool since the summer of 2001 and I keep thinking I'll be in class in a few months. But it seems it will always be next year.

Is there anyway of knowing how many SWA will hire in 2004 based only on retirements?

Thanx for the updates

-LFD
